Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
Hi Marvin..
I saw that pack in desa park city......Its 27.90 right if i'm not mistaken? Anyways i've got no % to buy those high quality ones hahah Ken |
Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
Hi Marvin, yes, that's the high quality sphagnum moss from NZ.
You've just repotted the mother plant? It looked fine to me. Your water level is too high, just half an inch will do. Let it dry before you refill again. :1thumbup: |
Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
That is the high quality one but it's insanely expensive haha. At Camerons they sell quite big bags for RM6~ I don't know if there's a difference but my plants can't seem to tell.

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
I bought them for RM15.50.I saw sphagum peat moss but its too big for a little grower like me.

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
The sphagnum moss from Cameron (you may also find it in "Jxxxx" Hypermarket) is from China, it's not as good, and it decomposes quite fast.

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
I think rm15.50 is ok. Did you buy it at Ace Hardware Marvin? I think I would want to get 1 pack too for keeps. I recall buying some loose bags from Fauzi awhile back. I don't know what species of Sphagnum that is but it's definitely HQ sphagnum. The white ones like TS mention tend to have bad odour and become slimy and soggy to the touch after a few weeks.

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
Yes.I bought it from ACE.Why does the sticker on the Sm says New Trio Products? Is it the same nursey from Tropicana?Anyways what is root hormone?

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
Hi Marvin,
High quality moss you got there. What is the weight for this pack of sphagnum moss? |
Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
erm ken,i think the pack of NZ shagnum moss which is rm27+ is a bigger pack while this 1 is only the small pack=.=

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
I saw the pack before in ACE hardware. I thought it was the wrong SM for my VFT. So I went for the compost (black color) SM, Hortie.
Do I need to mix both types of SM (the one from NZ and Hortie) in each pot? If yes what is the ratio between them? One more thing.... Will the fiber form (from NZ) SM turn alive after I put them in water soaked pot? Thanks..... |
Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
For best price, can try the 5kg compressed cube. Share among few buyers and save a bundle.

Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
Thanks for the info on prices and country of origin, but since different prices were reported - Ken RM27.90, Zak RM6.00 and Marvin RM15.50, there is no indication which was worth the buy. providing the weight after mixing with water ( as provided by the manufacturer ) will clear the doubt.

They sometimes do come alive when you place them in the right conditions. |
Re: Recently bought Sphagnum Moss
RM27.90 & RM15.50 are from the same origin – New Zealand, packed in large & small pack. I found this one the best so far. The RM6.00 one you could find it in some of the nurseries or supermarkets locally. I have tried this one too, not too good, it decomposes very fast.
Zul, you mentioned compost (black colour) SM, did you see any word "peat" or "sphagnum moss peat"? If the answer is 'No", then I think you better don't use it for CPs, it could be other type of compost which is rich in minerals and nutrients and it's for other flowering plants. If you are buying from ACE, look out the packing stated "sphagnum moss peat" if you wanna use peat, or "New Zealand Sphagnum Moss" if you're looking for SM. |
