TC from Leaf cutting, Now develop their first leaves after i replant this to plain media. http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/11.08/img_0657.jpg VFT B52 make now callus. i just transferred it to plain media and hope there come the first leaves soon http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/11.08/img_0658.jpg here some other VFT from seeds http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/11.08/img_0660.jpg http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/11.08/img_0662.jpg Jens |
Re: Tissue Culture Thread
Hi Nepaholic
Nice VFts I like them.........You grew the seeds inside the syrup thingy???????????? Ken |
Re: Tissue Culture Thread
Nice VFTs. How long did it take for them to germinate??
|
Re: Tissue Culture Thread
Thank you
it takes 4-6 weeks for germination in TC. But then they grow very fast. The last 2 seedlings i sow in august. So they germinate in September. You can see how fast they grow, every day Jens |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
may we know what TC medium you use and what preparations you made in terms of chemicals, etc. on your seed and on your leaf cutting? Did you use hormones, etc?
I'm hoping that I can finally buy a TC kit and start a project similar to yours. Oh and where do you keep the bottles? What lighting? TTFN Arvin |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Hi Leafs are little bit tricky and i recommend to learn first TC with seeds.
I use 1/4 ms for seeds, for leafs just add 1ml/L Bap. Seeds i sterilise 15min in 10%Bleach Why you want to buy a kit? You can build a simple transfer box with gloves. thats cheaper. Jens |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Hi Jens...
How are you doing bro? it has been so long since we last chatted... Nice Tc plant... good job... :1thumbup::1thumbup::1thumbup: Later i might wanna get some info from you^^ Regards Jonathan |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Hi Jonathan
everything its ok. Just a little bit busy :) How are you? |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Can it be done with any CP seeds??
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
BTW what's that syrup-thingy.
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Yeah, whats that liquid, I am interested. Perhaps an alternative to a different media finally!
Cheers |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
here are some links for all who didn´t know what TC is

Re: VFT TC Pictures
Jonathan, thanks for your reply about what medium, etc. you use. appreciate it. Actually I was going to buy a TC kit that includes agar, MS, etc. it does not come with a laminar flow box, etc. Which now you mentioned it, do you do your TC in your "kitchen" meaning you made your own box? May I request for a photo of your setup? :)
To the others who were asking for info about the medium and didn't visit the link, basically that syrupy thing is agar medium, it is not really syrupy because it is like jello, heck one can say it's jello. I have some Gelatine mix now because I wanted to experiment, my first experiment failed, the Jello never stayed hard in room temperature. Also you can't technically use it for outdoor or normal potting, because the medium, if you enrich with nutrients for the plants, can help mold, bacteria, etc. grow quickly, thus if your medium gets contaminated with mold for example, your plant will be compromized. I am still new to this so I hope what I said was accurate, anyone please jump in if any of what I said is incorrect. :) TTFN Arvin |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
hi
I build a laminar flow hood self. Very expensive things but veryg good. Since i have this, i had no contaminations. Here is my flowhood: http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/07.08/img_8896.jpg http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/07.08/img_8895.jpg http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/07.08/img_8901.jpg http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/07.08/img_8905.jpg The candle is just for checking the flow http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/07.08/img_8909.jpg |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Jens, That's impressive workmanship. Nicely done!
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Ooh how confusing.

Hi Arvin... I guess you got the wrong guy... you should be thanking Jens... :1thumbup: Hej Bro... looks very good and very impressive.... hope i could get the the blue print of the laminar floor hood from you... Regards Jonathan |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Yes my apologies, Thanks Jens, and thanks for sharing your Laminar flow system. May I know if there are any free plans for these in the internet, or maybe a way for you to share your design?
Your system looks really nice! There are some TC labs in universities here that use a more simple system of a closed box with glass and working with gloves, where you put your hands in the gloves from outside so that the box is "sealed", the problem I think is it is difficult to still prevent contaminants from coming in when you open the box to put in materials and instruments. Re: VFT TC Pictures
Thanks Guys
here it the plan i build my flowhood after. They are nearly same. i just bought an other blower. but my blower have nearly same power. http://www.orchideenvermehrung.at/english/lfh/index.htm |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Ooohhhh......what is a laminar flow system? It looks well-built, I wonder, does it control the flow of air??
John, I didn't know you could write swedish. Cool! Yes, that was certainly educational, I think that will be a important ingredient in the CP world one day..... Cheers |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Ooh...I hope I can germinate darlingtonia in TC jello. That will make them grow faster.
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
So,how did you get the jelly thingy?(still didn't get the name.........zzzzzzzz)
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
TC Jelly?
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
the gelling agent is agar, mixed with MS medium and some other things
Jens |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Does nurseries sell them?

Re: VFT TC Pictures
i want to ask about the system, did you use UV light to sterilize the compartment before you started to use it?
|
Re: VFT TC Pictures
No i just clean the bench with alcohol before i start work in it.
I can have jars open for 30min without any contaminations. Jens |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Here some new Pictures. Sorry for the poor quality, It is not easy to take photos of plants inside jars
VFT Giant http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0952.jpg B52 now develop the first leafes http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0953.jpg Drosera peltata http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0955.jpg Red VFT http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0956.jpg http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0957.jpg http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0959.jpg Red from Leaf Tissue http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0961.jpg D. auriculata http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/12.08/img_0963.jpg Jens |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Nice plants. I find out that the seed cultured germinated faster.
Cheers |
Re: VFT TC Pictures
Hey I actually agree, I wonder why not many TC labs use UV light to sterlize the case before working, that should technically work well! I do like Jen's system, very simple yet he is producing nice TC plants.
By the way when you posted VFT red from leaf tissue, does that mean the leaf or the white part of the leaf? As usual great work and informative! Need to get going and order my kit soon :) TTFN Arvin |
Re: VFT TC Pictures

First it is expensive. And Alcohol work faster. If you want to sterilize with UV lights it needs severall hours to be clean. Alcohol works directly. Quote:
I tryd many different ways to do TC but this is really the best. I tried over a cooking pot, gloveboxes.... Gloveboxes are good if you want to start with TC and it is also cheap to build. Quote:
Here you can see a picture of the same plant, just 1 month ago http://pics.nepenthes.se/forumpics/11.08/img_0657.jpg @edwardyeeks you really think they are faster? I think not because VFT seeds germinate 2-3 later as usual. Also Nepenthes and Drosera Tc needs some time but then after a while the seeds/plants whatever kick off :) Jens |
