Re: Can We Grow Heliamphoras in Malaysia?
I grow it in my garden, getting 2 to 3 hours direct morning sun, surprisingly it has no ill effect on the plant :smile:, and it's sends out flower stalk now!:laugh:
But I have it not too long ago, still under observation. One thing for sure it can tolarate our climate, I discovered the new leaves appeared to have some red tinch on it, still not quite sure they'll retain the red colouration when they get bigger. |
Re: Can We Grow Heliamphoras in Malaysia?
i was a bit too adventurous. the plant was growing healthily and i thought it make good sense to divide the clump. well, i got 5 new clumps but 2 seems to be dying and the mother plant is probably dead now. am trying to ensure survival of the last 3 clumps that i have.
my friend's plants suffered a lot initially. from the large big clump, only a small one survived but since then, it is growing well and putting out stalks and a couple of new plantlets. we are just leaving it alone in a terranium under lights and air con. think it will do well from now onwards. well, for those who are thinking of dividing the mother plant into smaller clumps, think twice! it is a gamble.... |
Re: Can We Grow Heliamphoras in Malaysia?
Was at monkeycup's nursery just before Christmas- for a short while, in between appointments. If I am not mistaken, he has divided some Heliamphoras (think similar to what you guys bought) and the newly divided plants looks strong like an Ox!
Maybe ask him what's the secret. Eric, Eric, where are you... |

Re: Can We Grow Heliamphoras in Malaysia?
Hi......
Well normally heliamphoras are generally found at very very high elevations so temperatures up there are quite cool and windy but also retaining high humidity. And because its so windy and rough up there the traps are quite "strong" in texture. Anyways like i said generally mpst heliams are in the highlands of the tepui mountains there are some which has adapted or in the wild are found at the base of this highland which means it will tolerate higher temps which is H.Minor and H heteredoxa as mentioned. So in my opinion this 2 will do best in our weather with some overhead watering with cooled water during the hot parts of the day :D Ken |
Can We Grow Heliamphoras in Malaysia
i live in Florida as well and i am growing 12 plants outside and 12 plants in side i have Ben growing outside for about five years and i plant new plants outside ever six mounts so yes in Florida you can grow any time of the year but it would be best that u bring the plants in side if it gets to cold out here
