New acquisitions...
Hi guys... Just got 2 new neps from Eric's nursery. 1 Nep globosa'viking' and a lowland hybrid. ID of the hybrid will be greatly appreciated, as well as culture tips for both. Thanks.

Re: New acquisitions...
That looks like thorelli but you can ask Eric.He should no the plant.
Viking will get blood red in full sun but the leaves will burn if exposed to full sun so you have to shade the leaves and expose the pitchers to sunlight. But let's see other members comment bout this. Hopo this helps.! |
Re: New acquisitions...
Hi paphioboy,
Nice viking you got there, hope it'll grow well for you. I also got the 2nd unknown plant from Eric (he also dunno abt the ID), I still can't figure out what it is... Hi Ali, I think if you expose the viking pitcher in full sun, the red coloration will get bleach after a while.... from my own experience, others are welcome to give feedback  |
Re: New acquisitions...
Hi
Grats on the new plant..The look nice and healthy.. And Ali umm normally for most neps in most people's experience pitchers attain more colour when exposed to more light but for a viking pitchers will get redder if you shade them.. Ken |
Re: New acquisitions...
Mine doesn't show red color when shaded. They get more redder in sunlight.
Thanx! |
Re: New acquisitions...
Hi Ali,
If that's the case, you got a viking with a desirable trait... congrats !! *biggrin2* |

Re: New acquisitions...
Thanks for the helpful tips, guys.. :) And thanks for the ID, cedric. now i notice the peristome looks a bit like truncata. So I guess I can hope for truncata-sized pitchers on this baby? Hehehe.. :p

Re: New acquisitions...
i bought one same as ur 1st pic.. there is a lable on mine written globosa X kuching
|
Re: New acquisitions...
I don't think its a thorelii x truncata...Why cos of the leaf shape..Does not show any signs of truncata in it..From what i normally see truncata has quiote a big influence on the leaves with hybrids of it..

Re: New acquisitions...
Ken,
You are wrong.Have you seen EP's xPredator (truncata x hamata)? The plant has only truncata influence in the pitcher size.Other grow similar to hamata. |
Re: New acquisitions...
3 Attachment(s)
Anyway, this is No ID nep No. 2 from Eric... yes, Eric also dunno what species this nep belongs to... :crying:
Hope you guys can help :shy: Attachment 1379 Attachment 1380 I really doubt these No ID nep originated from EP coz it's cheap.... so what the heck.. Eric did however mentioned it probably originated from MT (Eric got the plants from other source), any clues?? cbkhoon, Haha..... To confuse you and others even more, this is how my N. viking x kuchingensis looks like.... also from Eric... :spinning: Attachment 1381 So?? Confuse yet... *biggrin2* |
Re: New acquisitions...
Hmm... Robert, your viking x kuchingensis is very nice.. I actually wouldn't mind if mine turned out like that.. But then I'll have to get myself a real viking again.. :D Your green NoID has great pitcher to leaf ratio.. :)
|
Re: New acquisitions...
Robert,
That might be rafflesiana x veitchii. The leaves which looks like veitchii and the pitcher do resembles raff a bit.The ridged peristome. Hope this helps.! |
Re: New acquisitions...
paphioboy,
Thanks. I picked this viking x kuchingensis becoz of it's peristome and pitcher shape  A good excuse to get yourself another new nep *biggrin2*. Hope you get the right one next time.... Ali, Ya, I'm guessing about the same thing. Oh well, have to grow it a little longer to see it's more mature pitcher. Thanks. |

I saw in a Taiwanese forum recently about a member called a nep "hong teng long" (literally means red lantern in English) the name in English was N. xRebecca Soper, I tried google in the net, N. xRebecca Soper looked quite similar to what we have. Maybe you guys should also check on the web and see. If this is a xRebecca Soper, then it should be a N. gracillima x ventricosa. If Eric's source is from Taiwan, then it should be N. xrebecca soper. |
Re: New acquisitions...
Hi TS,
Thanks for your input, will definately take a closer look. If it's really "red lantern", even better.... *biggrin2* |
Re: New acquisitions...
EP sells a ventricosa named Red lantern if i'm not mistaken.

Re: New acquisitions...
Hi TS,
After some googling, I found this site http://www.hantsflytrap.com/nmc045-x...soper-90-p.asp. This site refer N. xRebecca Soper as a cross between N.ramispina x N.ventricosa :spinning: while most Taiwanese website stated it's N. gracilima x N. ventricosa.... :spinning: Nevermind, at least now I have some idea what this mystery nep might be.... *biggrin2* Thanks again TS... :1thumbup: |
Re: New acquisitions...
may i know how much eric is selling the ?N. gracillima x ventricosa and whether it is still available? thanks. it is indeed a nice looking plant and the colour and size looks good.
|
Re: New acquisitions...
Hi SSS,
I got mine @ RM25 or less... can't be sure coz I also got others. That's why I said this probably not originated from EP. *biggrin2* |
Re: New acquisitions...
Hi cpnut,
You are most welcome. Be it N.ramispina x N.ventricosa or N. gracillima x ventricosa, the good thing is it grows happily in lowland condition despite the highland/imtermediate trait. Let see how it goes, probably we could ID it when it gets bigger. Quote:

Re: New acquisitions...
It's funny to think you know what a plant is, read thru three pages and then see that people have come to that conclusion. Looks a bit like my ventricosa x ramispina.
Cheers, Joe |
Re: New acquisitions...
thanks cpnut, will drop by eric's place to look for this plant one day. be it gracillima or ramispina as a parent, the colour of the leaves and pitchers are still fascinating. really nice shade of red. and of course, it grows well in lowland conditions!!

Re: New acquisitions...
HI, a friend is growing this x Rebecca Sopper, here is the picture, so take a look and have a comparison (he got this one from Hongkong):

Re: New acquisitions...
Hi Ed,
At least now with your pic, we all know how a N. xRebecca Sopper suppose to look like when grown in tropical L/L condition (i'm assuming) and I must say it's a pretty decent looking cross. So I can say it's less confusing now... *biggrin2* Thankyou Ed. :1thumbup: |
Re: New acquisitions...
Thanks Edy, a nice x Rebecca Soper indeed. Thanks for the effort to get the picture. :1thumbup:
|
Re: New acquisitions...
Sure, no problem guys, I am expecting to get a cutting from my friend on this one. He grows his Rebecca Sopper at the elevation of 1200 m asl, so probably when down to our lower elevation the pitcher might not get that big or dark color.
