Just three pics
N. northiana - nothing spectacular yet but my largest pitcher so far. Proud of it because it is formed at my balcony with the full fluctuation of the humidity, blasting heat and direct afternoon sunlight.
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t.../northiana.jpg N. mirabilis var echinostoma - I got it in August 2006 and this is the first decent pitcher it made me. It HATED my balcony conditions but now it is kinda liking it. I have no idea why. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...chinostoma.jpg N. globusa (viking) - I like its wide peristome and colour. The contrast between red and the pale green is nice. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...08/globusa.jpg |
Re: Just three pics
WOW Cindy
I love your Viking. Is it eeasy to grow? It should be my next nep to get |
Re: Just three pics
I think your northiana's colour is being washed away in direct afternoon sunlight Casey!
|
Re: Just three pics
Nice Neps. But I agree with Ali. The colour seems a little too white. Or is it that colour naturally?
|
Re: Just three pics
Another question. Is that mirabilis var echinostoma from Fauzi?
|
Re: Just three pics
Hi Ali,
It is not from me but I think it is from BE and if it is from BE it's originated from Brunei. It is still a lower pitcher. As mentioned by Cindy earlier (maybe in another thread) it is quite moody variety. I got 1 large plant that should have produce an upper pitcher now but after 1.5 years, only 2 pitchers were formed and now it is without pitcher for almost 5 months already. Thanks Fauzi |
Re: Just three pics
Hmm, I am not sure if the northiana is bleached or not 'cos I don't know exactly how its colour should be. Never had a northiana before this one. Should I move it somewhere with less light?
The echinostoma is indeed the BE clone. SUPER inconsistent but I have another plant from other source which is equally grouchy. Not sure if echinostoma is like that the whole time. Seasonal pitchering? |
Re: Just three pics
Oops, forgot about Jeff's question. The plant is a cutting. It took a while to settle down and the pitchers tend to abort themselves halfway. Could be because the weather is a little dry lately and the media tends to dry out more.

Re: Just three pics
Thanks Cindy
Ya truth, now the weather seems a bit too dry. My Miranda will pitcher only in shady area, sunny area it just dont pitcher. Soil media will get dry too. Hmmm... Where to get a N Viking? |
Re: Just three pics
Jeff,
As far as i know you can get viking from www.neofarmthailand.com This is only place i know that sells viking and viking hybrids. |
Re: Just three pics
Jeff, I second Ali's comment. Neofarm is great! I visited their nursery with the owners, Khun Nong and his son K. Sak, earlier this year and had a great time. I picked out plants and they mailed them to me with no problems, even adding a couple "bonus" plants. There's a link to an "English" page and articles on the homepage...their articles on Vikings are some of the only material available on the species and worth reading!
I've got a few hundred Viking seedlings going, but they will be tiny for some time to come and they are just for my own projects, not for sale. There are a few other sellers, mostly in Bangkok. Here's a link to a Thai forum which won't help you much unless you can read Thai script, but just below the masthead are a line of links (starting with "MainPage", "FAQ", etc.) there's about 6 links to Thai sellers there. I "think" Fausi had some Vikings last time I looked at his site, but not sure. Good luck! Shawn PS my miranda's are also in partial shade but pitcher freely year round... I do keep them quite wet. I was just reading an article somewhere on http://lhnn.proboards107.com/index.cgi discussing N. miranda and the need for a very 'open' media. Mine are in coco fiber, which with all the water is probably getting pretty no-airated but they seem to be doing great anyway! I'll try to shoot a couple pictures soon. |
Re: Just three pics
Neofarm sells their plants quite expensively.
Some plants are more than 2000 that is equal to more than RM195. |

Re: Just three pics
OK Jeff,
I might agree with you but don't you think a xcoccinea (small size) for 350 Baht(RM34) and a Hookeriana for 1,500 Baht (RM145.50) is way too expensive. You can buy a medium size xcoccinea for RM25 and a large size hookeriana for RM65 from Fauzi. Link: www.dapat.net/4zeplant |

Re: Just three pics
Thanks, Robert. Phew! I thought the northiana pitcher is really bleached as suggested. I'll post again when the next pitcher starts to colour up.

Re: Just three pics
Cindy,
Your echinostoma seem to have more reddish colour on its pitchers compared to mine, but perhaps mine is still a young plant. Nice colours. |
Re: Just three pics
David, is yours from BE too? And how big is your plant? Mine is about 6"-7" across.
|
Re: Just three pics
Hi Jeff, ironically my miranda is growing >15" pitchers when under 90% sunlight. But I moved it gradually though. But it liked a large pot, as they tend to suck up lots of water. :2thumbup:
