D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots

I have two plants which are producing offshoots now. I have no idea why they are both doing it at the same time except that they are growing next to each other...maybe they do communicate.

The offshoots can be snapped off the plants now or when some of the oldest leaves unfurl. I am sure I am not the first one to try and do this but thought I would like to post the whole process.

Anyone with experience, like TS, can give some input about how you propagate paradoxa? Thanks!

I don't have a clue but man, what beautiful shots! Like a fireworks display! Please do keep us informed on the process!

usually, i pull off the leaf including the white tips for propagation. lay on damp peat moss, cover lightly with LFS. wait. pray. germination rate 70 %.

i`ve not seen plantlets come out from the mother plant like yours before Cindy. it reminds me a bit of a scene from the movie Aliens. haha.

Hmm, my paradoxa also has never given me offshoots before. Cool!

Then I have lots of "calefare" for alien movies in my balcony!

Seriously, I bought one D. paradoxa which has like about 7-8 offshoots. And I rooted every one of them for fun. Now another two plants (from Lim) are producing offshoots.

I thought it is common and that was how Lim propagated them for sale?

My D. paradoxa also producing offshoot...

Beside that, it also producing 2 flower stalk... It can produce seeds? If not, I will cut off those flower stalk. Their flower is very nice...

Casey, the flowers don't self pollinate and you need two different clones to try and get seeds.

Your offshoot is easier to remove and probably has its own roots. Mine appear in the middle of the whole plant...I am still deciding how to make the cut.

Just a stab in the dark...I noticed that both Casey's and my paradoxa plants are in small/short pots i.e. diameter/height less than the plant itself. Anyone noticed that it can actually encourage offshoots?

If that case, will cut off those flower stalk soon. Dont want to stress the plant at the moment, since I only have 101 D. paradoxa.

Cindy, my paradoxa offshoot also looks like yours initially. I just lets it be and didnt separate them. They may be will grow nicer under protection of their mother...

Here is the others paradoxa that produced offshoot. It belong to a grower from penang, CCLaw.
