Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
Oh... OK. I was just confused when I didn't see it, being new to forums as well. Duh!
So, you think it's doomed as well? |
Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
You can try giving it alot of sunlight and clean water, cut off that flower stalk and feed it when there is dews on the leaves. It might survive.

Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
ya david is right ... you have to cut off the flower stalk if you want the mother plant. Feed drosera when there is DEW. if still do not produce the dew, mean your burmanii still under recovering.
You can cut off the old & die leave. |
Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
I'm not sure if I missed something here but, when you do cut off the flowerstalk I suggest the following:
1. Cut it off near the plant. 2. After that then you have the flower stalk with flowers right? Now cut off the stalk right near the first flower or bud. 3. The top part with buds and flowers, you put in a plastic bag and hope that they give you seeds, just keep it there for a week and then shake, if you see small black seeds (very small) congratulations. 4. The bottom part of the stalk, just the stalk, cut in maybe 1 inch length and put in sphagnum moss lying down. Why? Well I have not experienced myself, but maybe, just maybe they might germinate some plantlets. I will be making a new topic about it in the forum. But it works on Capensis at the least, no signs of it working on D. Spatulata yet though, maybe you get lucky with Burmanii. If you don't have spare container or medium, put them with the original plant. All the above is to hopefully help you: a. Keep your plant as others have adviced. b. get some seeds out of your flowers c. get some plantlets from flower stalk cuttings (dont' hold your breath here, it's an experiment). Good luck! Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
Thanks guys! Funny enough... for some of the tips, I did just that when I went home last night... just thought I should do that based on experience with other plants... hehe...
I shall try my best and update if anything does come out of it. I shall go get some emm... peat moss thing later. Where to I put the stalk and seeds (if I have any at all)? Same place i used to put mother plant? Unfortunately that place can get very wet and windy... last night the tray filled up with rain water by the time I got home. Thanks again for all the HELP! |

i not suggest seed sow in the mother plant pot. So you need give mother plant direct sun. sometime the water might flood and it make your seed gone. So you can take a "taufuhua" container ... mixed with peat and perlite then sow your seed. properly 3-5weeks you can see little babies :biggrin: |

Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
Yeah, I would like to suggest that the part of the flower stalk that had flowers be kept in a plastic bag (zip lock) or for me I put them in small plastic containers. I would shake them from time to time to see if there are seeds. When you see very small black seeds (they look very small though) then you sow them as edmund mentioned, separately in a container that you can put a lid on.
One thing I have learned is that you don't want your container with seeds to be rained on, too many things will happen, either seeds will be buried deep, or might get washed away or might bunch together, etc. When you sow the seeds, just sprinkle them over the medium, you don't need to bury them at all. Again do understand they are considered annuals, so if your mother plants does die, it's just their life cycle, grow some more with your seeds. :) TTFN Arvin |
Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
Wowwee cool, so much more new advise over the weekend...
And to exhousted, hope you bhave better luck than I have. Mine is officially quite dead. It just looks like a lump of um... nothing much... I think can not be considered being slowly converted to fetilizer... Ah yes, now the seeds. My bud are still looking quite green but I was taking Arvin's advise to put them into a bag, but before I did that, I sort of "dusted" it on a white piece of paper and I THINK some seeds came out... they look like small black dust... aiya, forgot to take picture again. Is that it? Anyway, put into a small translucent plastic bag already now. OKie, now new dilemma... I'm going to be away for more than a week end of this month. I really want my seeds to grow but I'm scared I will kill them all if I don't give 'em the right conditions... Would anyone in KL with experience be so kind to help with some... so that they WILL survive? Btw Arvin, what's TTFN stand for? Any I was just looking at your list, you've got stuff from Japan? Cool... Can we bring plants / seeds in from Japan to M'sia? |
Re: New & already needing URGENT help for my D. burmanii
If you want to try, make a propagation container (Tau hue or plastic container with medium) sprinkle some of the black dust seed you saw (yes I think they are probably seeds, I hope they are, and yes they are that small). Just a few for experiment, you should get some more when you get back from your trip. Sprinkle on surface of medium, medium should be quite wet, but not flooded. Then put in bright light but not directly light (still unsure what this means really, but I think it means maybe 30 mins to 1 hour of direct sunlight and mostly indirect daylight).
Hopefully when you come home you will have seedlings, if not then try again with your new seeds. In Japan I am not sure how easy to find CPs, I have seen them in 2 stores so far only, both are in Kansai area (yes near Kansai airport). I have never seen seeds, mostly plants. I only buy them because I saw them and didn't have them in my collection. I only bring maybe 2 at a time and bring in my baggage. I live in Philippines, so can't say about how strict in Malaysia. Usually 1 or 2 plants is not so strict. I bring them home bare root with just moist tissue paper as medium. All of the ones that I bring from Japan have survived, but that is only a 5 hour trip. Frankly when you buy CP from Japan supermarket, it's the same as others, it's like a "rescue" because they don't get sunlight when being displayed.
