It lives!!!!!!!
I can't believe it actually lives...the main plant turned to rotten mush months ago.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HB-4-WrckAs/TC...0/DSC00129.JPG Until it becomes obvious as to what it is(trust me, it'll be very obvious once it gets big enough), anyone wanna take a few guesses? |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Um I think it's a Ping, is that right bro? Could be one of the moranensis x ehlersiae hybrids...just my two cents...

Re: It lives!!!!!!!
It seems live VFT for me
|
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
VFT. The pointy bit at the end is what will be a trap..
|
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Sorry guys, its not a VFT, nor does it have anything to do with moranensis or ehlersiae.
Here's a hint: Its a pretty well known species and soon it'll be very obvious, especially what genera it is...plus once the species is revealed, it'll also become obvious why I'm so happy. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
for me coming back to LIVe is a miracle for me especially those hard to get stuffs ie cephalotus...:1thumbup:

Too bad I don't really propagate my stuff or we could make this one into another one of those guess guess thingies haha! |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
hahahahha....i agree wt the condition of the plants that we ordered from overseas.....either black brown smelly mushy goo or a super nice healty plant but dies almost instantly after potting.
then what is this in the pot?? |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!

But this little guy in the pot...even when ordered from a place that usually send good quality plants and no matter where its ordered from, still usually comes as black mush or KOs practically the next day if it came looking okay. To me, this one is really a miracle, heh... |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Darlingtonia?
|
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Still looks like VFT to me

Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Here's the latest update on this guy:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HB-4-WrckAs/TD...0/DSC00148.JPG You can see the largest leaf starting to grow its carnivorous bits: http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HB-4-WrckAs/TD...0/DSC00146.JPG This close up makes the genera of the plant obvious... http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HB-4-WrckAs/TD...0/DSC00145.JPG ...anyone wanna take a guess at the species? :flowers: |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
it is drosera?
|
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Drosera. Don't tell me it's nep, cause I know it isn't *biggrin2*

Re: It lives!!!!!!!
I think it is Drosera arcturi. You keep it under room temperature?

This one on the other hand...well, personally I'd rather have this guy anyway. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Another New Zealand's sundew. D. stenopetala?
|
Re: It lives!!!!!!!

D. arcturi was quite a good guess actually, this one is supposed to be somewhat closely related to D. arcturi because of certain features they share. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Last guess. The king of the sundew - Drosera regia.

Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Yes. It looks like D. adelae but XXXL size. Wanna try?

Re: It lives!!!!!!!
No. But will have it soon.
I got this one germinated recently. How much heat can it tolerated according to your experience? http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...silim/dros.jpg |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Cute! It looks quite like a Drosophyllum seedling at that stage...
As for heat, its hard for me to say, mine only just popped up...although I hope that it coming back instead of just staying dead is a good sign. It takes normal day temps in bright shade at most for me. Your's may be more heat tolerant, being a seedling. Also, if you weren't using chemical treatments to get germination, then the seeds which germinated would probably be those which are more okay with our warm weather... |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
According to Barry Rice, this plant die rapidly if the temperatures ever exceed 41-43°C.
http://www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq5300.html I have a few seedlings for experiment. I keep them under 50% shade and 70% shade. See which one live longer. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
I guess my conditions might be closer to 70% shade...though it does get morning sun. I really doubt that our normal day temps even go up to 41°C except for possible freak weather...
You're really lucky to have a few seedlings. Is it easy to get germination or does it require special treatment? |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
This is the 4th time I try to germinate Drosophyllum. This time I divided them into 3 groups.
1. Sow directly without treatment 2. Scrape the seeds with sand paper and dip in GA3 solution for 1 day. 3. Scrape the seeds with sand paper and dip in water for 1 day. Some seeds from group 2 and 3 germinated within 10 days time. Group 1 no germination. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
piscesilim, the seeds is so tiny, how can you scrape the seeds? can you show give me some instruction?
|
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Hi, Lim.
Where you buy the GA3? What is the price range? If seed germinate treatment, how many percent concentration solution you prepare normally? Thanks. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
Drosophyllum seed is not tiny if compare to Drosera seed.
I got GA3 from a friend. 250 ppm. |
Re: It lives!!!!!!!
can post out some pictures about them? =D
