|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
CPs .....Depends if Fauzi`s gonna be there or not...heheh. Ask him.
For the non-CP side, last year`s ( or was it 2 years` ago ) was quite decent, better than the 1st time but the best is still the one @ Lake Gardens. |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
I agreed with you Tarence, I know you got something precious last minute.*biggrin2*
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
TS...eh what was it yah ? even i can`t remember...i know i got my s.psittacina from Lake gardens punya expo many years ago.....Putrajaya : did i get lycos there ? Hmmmm..... heheh.....my memory failing me.
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Hehe... Tarence, I meant your S. psittacina lah...*biggrin2* so beautiful and red, and gigantic too, but don't remind me again what you fed it with :sweating:. Mine not as red as yours.
Aiya... your Lyco make me drool, since when I mentioned I want a baby Lyco (the blue one), when can get a small baby from you urh? I'll pay for it, don't worry, hehe. |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
OIC.....that s.psittacina....poor thing has gone to CP heaven...i couldn`t manage it`s dormancy....
Blue lyco : not doing well at the moment coz accidentally left it for too long in a corner without sun. It started to rot. I got frens who managed to buy it from nursery wor lately.....i`ll ask them for you.... I lost my other soft touch squirrolsome ( wrong spelling i know ) which was very precious. Also due to lack of sun & rotting. Boohoo. That one seriously very difficult to find. |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Ohh, my "condolences" to your S. psittacina & soft touch "squirrolsome"
Was it one of those lycos at your home I saw before? |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
CP only miranda and ventrata is available? :glare:
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
FYI, Fauzi said he wouldn't participate in this year's Floria :( otherwise we would see many more different CPs.
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Yes! not so much on Cps.
Plenty of Orchid, I bought some nice Orchid. I just went thru fast and not sure maybe I miss out ..... |
Re: Floria 2011 is back

|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Managed to visit there yesterday after Tarence called me. Not much CPs though but I saw some sarracenias and VFTs beside those common neps. Bought some lycopodiums:laugh:. Thanks Tarence for informing me.

Re: Floria 2011 is back
Seems like those sarracenia and VFT is from others source beside YG Park, even they are plants that usually sell by YG Park.
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
KC, it looks like it could have been bought from YG then split into their own pots & sell to customers. It looks very home-grown & worse, they are using clay or ceramic pots. Wasn`t cheap. The VFT looks cute tho.

Yes agree. It didn`t look freshly separated tho.
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
They were all established plant and quite healthy I would say. But surprisingly no one seems to go grab after I posted the pictures here. Are those CPs too common?

Re: Floria 2011 is back
Probably members are sick of handling dormancy (for Sarra & VFTs), except for new growers maybe they'll buy.
The sarra could be very beautiful in the initial stage, but they tend to die during or after the dormancy in our climate. Are your Sarracenias growing well after dormancy, Paphioboy? I wanted to try on the dormancy handling for Sarra years back, but unfortunately I don't have time. I have a few left at home which are quite OK after a couple of years of dormancy. But they are mostly seed grown. |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
i am so agree with TS, YES...sick of handling dormancy...my sarra collection has been downsized to a few pots and only buy new ones to add in new item into the growlist... shoot as many pics during the prime growth period and when they goes dormancy...finger crossed that they may comeback... after many failed attempts (cold and dry method) i chose to leave them in their growing pots and treat them as if they are still growing (water tray, daily sun) and guess what, my s. mitchelliana came back... strange..
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Happy that it came back, Kevyn. Please remain as it is till the next domancy, I really wanna know if it still come back. By experiment like this, hopefully we could be able to find a way to grow them for years. :1thumbup:
|
Re: Floria 2011 is back
yup...will maintain as it is...one more failure is to polinate the flower... therefore no back up plant if it fail to come back from dormancy...

Re: Floria 2011 is back
Another pic taken this year showing where they are amongst my many orchids:
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...1_05_08016.jpg Front row of CPs: Nep Rebecca Soper, 2 purpureas, red ampullaria and a taller sarra hybrid. There is another taller sarra leucophylla hybrid on the left, partially blocked by a Brassavola Little Star orchid. Neps hanging below are (viking x kuchingensis), viking, northiana and x dyeriana. |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Paphioboy, I'm very happy that your sarras doing well in your garden, I'm really interested in your method, could you elaborate more on "dry dormancy treatment" that you did to your plant? :1thumbup:
Many years ago when I have my first Sarra (that was more then 10 years ago), I really have no idea at all to grow it, when it grew too compact, I divided it to several pots, but at that moment I didn't know what the assisting growing media was (infact it was peat), so I just used the red burnt earth which I have plenty at home. Fortunate enough, they thrive:laugh:. For the following few years, they gone dormant and came back repeatedly. They eventually died after my negligence. :bored: Wish your sarras happy in your garden, I really hope to see them after 10 or 20 years!!:1thumbup: |
Re: Floria 2011 is back
Thanks TS. I water daily when they are actively growing, when they are going dormant, I place them (pot and all) in a shady cool place and reduce watering to once a week only. The sphagnum moss will become a bit crisp on top. I only resume regular watering when the plants stop producing phyllodia (non-pitcher leaves) and resumed normal pitchering. This usually happens under high humidity conditions (heavy continuous rain), but not always. IMHO, purpurea types can be divided into single plants as they recover more easily from the division process compared to the taller alata/ leucophylla types.

Re: Floria 2011 is back
Thanks Paphioboy, that info is really precious to me:1thumbup:. I'll try doing the same way this season when they go dormant. *biggrin2*
