They're tiny because that's the way they are, Allen. Different species/hybrids will produce different seed size and shape...

Germination rate will be very dependent on the freshness of the seeds and your skill on nep seed germination. Anyway, germinating is easy, it's the grow up part that is time consuming and require more care...

Re: WTS : Nepnut's Nep hybrid seeds (Made in Malaysia) ^_^

Hi all,
Here's the latest batch of my own nep hybrids from my own collection.

Female : N. veitchii HL x boschiana (EP)

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6683223_n.jpg

Male : 3 different nep species

No.1 : N. boschiana
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1634093_n.jpg

No 2 : N. veitchii "green" L/L
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3207469_n.jpg

N. sp Tiger "striped peristome"
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...9_652186_n.jpg

IMPORTANT : Since this is the first time I cross with this female (EP's N. veitchii HL x boschiana), I can't be 100% sure if the seeds will be viable. However, observing the seed size (individual seeds), healthy female plant and good seed pods development, I believe the seeds will be viable. So, only for this offer, I'm selling at discounted price. Once this batch of seeds proved to be viable... the future batch of seeds will be selling at a higher price.

Please PM me for pricing and details. Limited quantities, first come first serve. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Teoh... We all learn from experience. As long as you don't give up trying *biggrin2*

BTW, I knew my previous batch of seeds that I sold will be viable since it's actually my second batch of seeds from the same parent cross... Just this batch I'm not 100% sure about the N. veitchii HL x boschiana female. However all signs points to viability of the seeds.

Growing nep from seeds will take a lot of time and patience but it's very rewarding.

N. (adanmana x mirabilis) x veitchii "Green" LL

N. (thorelii x boschiana) x boschiana
N. (thorelii x boschiana) x veitchii "Green" LL

*biggrin2*

hmm....i wonder if i missed out this batch..

__________________________________________________ _______
as for the 2nd batch of seeds......sow circa 3rd week of september 2010.

1. (N. mirabilis var globosa x miranda) x veitchii "green" L/L = a few germinated < 6
2. (N. mirabilis var globosa x miranda) x bicalcarata = a few germinated < 8

if were to compare between these 2 batches of seeds..... the one with veitchii cross proved to be more vigorous with 1 of the seedlings growing at a faster growth rate.

and question.....

i provide same light and humidity (indoor setting with 2 fluorescent light tubes), first pair of leaves (dark green) to about the 3rd pair of leaves with pitchers (pale green).....should i start to increase the light intensity by slowly introducing it to natural light under shade and also to loosen the container cover to let air exchange?

looking forward for the 3rd batch of seeds...*biggrin2*

1. (N. veitchii HL x boschina) x boschiana

2. (N. veitchii HL x boschina) x veitchii LL "green"

3. (N. veitchii HL x boschina) x sp. tiger "striped peristome"

N. (thorelii x boschiana) x veitchii "Green" LL

Somebody is keeping tab... *biggrin2*

N. (adanmana x mirabilis) x veitchii "Green" LL - I harvested the 1st batch and decided to sow all the seeds myself since not sure whether the seeds will be viable. Don't worry, 2nd batch of the same cross will be ripe soon... *biggrin2*

N. (thorelii x boschiana) x boschiana & N. (thorelii x boschiana) x veitchii "Green" LL - samething, I decided to sow the seeds myself. The seeds from this cross is really small, I'm having doubts of it's viability so decided to try it out myself first.

Samething too for N. Rokko "Exotica" x veitchii HL, seeds very small, so decided not to sell it.

My principle, If I don't feel confident about the seeds, I won't sell it.

I think it's better to let the seedlings acclimatise to natural environment as early as possible, meaning exposing it to open air step by step.

As to how much light, I think others will have more experience in this as I only try out germinating my own nep seeds not too long ago... :shy:

Coming very soon...

Female
N. mirabilis var globosa (nice round form)

Male
N. boschiana (limited)
N. bicalcarata (very limited)
N. Dangnoi (very limited)

Ever see a N. Dangnoi?? It's a cross between N. mirabilis var globosa x ampullaria cv Cantley's Red created by K. xir007 of nepenthes siam

Now I made this back cross with var globosa hoping I will get a round form var globosa that will stay red even when exposed to sunlight... still with me?? *biggrin2*

Very interesting new hybrids... :) But I think I'll pass. The hybrid seeds with the boschiana female parent (x tiger striped peristome and x veitchii green) that I have sown have not germinated yet. Has anyone else's started to germinate already?

Hi Cheah,
It's still too soon. It'll usually take 2-4 weeks (minimum). Pls don't throw it away even after 1 month...

I did stated that I'm not 100% sure if this batch of seeds will be viable as this is the first time I made the cross with this female (N. veitchii HL x boschiana). However, after observing the harvested seeds, I felt confident the seeds should be viable...

i got faith that they will germinate for us, since most of the seeds look full and fat*biggrin2*
BTW, all of the seeds that you had sold us i have around 1-10 germinate for each of them, just the [N. (mirabilis var globosa x miranda) x boschiana] x boschiana have one germinated:crying:, except the newest batch:smile:

Good to hear that Allen.

Please understand that the hybrids that I made are not your "typical" hybrids of globosa or tigers that is vigorous and robust (these hybrids already very common in Thailand and exported to overseas market). Since the parents I mainly use are N. boshchiana & N. veitchii (not considered as easy to grow species), it's not out of the possibility that those seeds out of these parents might not be as easy to grow and robust when you compared to hybrids involving parents like globosa, mirabilis, x kuchingensis and etc...

Just imagine if hybrids involving N. boschiana and N. veitchii are so easy to propagate and grow, they'll be very common amd cheap !! Instead what we saw coming out of Thailand are still mainly hybrids involving parents with raffs, mirabilis, globosa, various tigers, amps, x kuchingensis and other easy to grow nep species. Hence.... those are very common. So far, only a handful professional nurseries like Borneo Exotics, Exotica Plants and Witsuba have hybrids wiht N. boschiana and N. veitchii on their availability list and pricing is premium.

My intention is to create hybrids that are easier to grow in our tropical climate yet affortable and it's different from most nep hybrids coming out from Thailand.

Hopefully, we'll be able to see those seedlings in 1-2 years time.... Good luck to all and thanks to your continued support. :1thumbup:

Thanks for you clarify, but i already aware about the risk for buying highland nepenthes seeds, although it is a mix of highland and lowland plant. Actually i did not imagine that some will germinate as i am trying to germinate them, but it still a good sign even though only one seedlings germinated and i did not blame you for the seeds, the only blame is on me as i did not provide suitable condition for them(maybe they are more to boschiana or veitchii side, thats why mine din germinate well) haha
