The ressurection of my Sundews
 

I had 2 prolifera about half-a-year ago. It died on me after a while. So I dumped the pot at the wash area in my apartment. After a couple of months the sphagnum moss grew over the pot.

then one fine day I decided to dig into the moss for no particular reason... ok, maybe at right at the back of my mind, I was hopping it woould grow back from the roots or perhaps some seeds that were left in the media when I got it.

To my surprise, I found a few babies growing in the moss after digging into them. :laugh:

Glad to hear that your little tiny sundews are back alive and growing lucky you dig the moss or not maybe without much care the babies might have died out again.Sooooo cute!!!...

Anyway did you receive my pm?????Oh yeah got a question to ask my VFT cutting which i did a few weeks back because of the incident which my VFT tried to either fly or suicide...(i think everyone knows what its trying to do).So today i checked the cuttings the whole leaf is dead with about 3-4 cm of rhizome left and i check 2 out of 5 the 2 i saw some tiny little nudge at the bottom of the rhizome one of the nudge is green and on the other its the colour of the rhizome.Does this mean its starting to grow???

Hi David,

Can you give us an idea of how dark or cool your wash area could be? It will give us a good estimate how hot or bright the species can handle. Thanks!

I didn't really check that area out but there's not direct sunlight. The sun shines on the other side of my apartment. The thing that surprise me was both 3 of the plantlets were growing in the dark in the moss, totally covered by the moss until I dig the moss up. So I guess they can pretty much grow in shade.

Perhaps with the moss covering around them, the temperature is much cooler around the plants as the sphagum moss is kept wet all the time. Humidity is also high.

Also the air outside my apartment is cooler compared to inside my house. Perhaps that's why the sphagnum moss also survives. They never survive in my terrarium indoors.

that also explain why the one in my room without any lighting is surviving, the one on the 2nd level shelf got wasted away

I was reading through the threads on other forums and found contrasting info pertaining to light levels and temperature. Some say that it does well for them even during summer. Others say that it should be in a highland chamber.

It seems like a case of D. adelae. Once you have it growing well in a particular condition, don't move it. :laugh:

I still can't get over the fact that the moss grow, much less the plantlets... oooh....

This is quite a tricky sundew to grow Jess. Still trying to find out what's the best cultivation method for this. Anyway, since it is alive at my was area, I'm not gonna move it or do anything different. Not gonna risk it dying. Not easy to get this species.

Lately, I've been looking at it alot and pooking at it every once in a while. I better stop before it sulks.
