Baby flava's
 

Here are a few pic's of my baby flava's from this year. The flava's were the first of my sarra's to germinate this year and they have now produced their first pitcher. They should have strong red coloration when they mature in a few years.

Nice seedlings Strath! I take it that you germinated them strait after collection? No stratification?

How old are they now? 1 year?

Thanks Arvin, The seeds were actually two year old and I put the seeds in a zip lock bag with some moist spahgnum in my fridge for a couple of months. I then put the mix onto a 50:50 mix of peat and sand. I think they germinated in around 3 weeks.

The plants are now about 4-6 weeks old.

Oic, interesting, does stratification needs to be that long? Can it be two weeks to one month?

By the way, interesting seedlings, I wish you luck in growing them. Hopefully they will be matured. ASAP :2thumbup::2thumbup:

It doesn't need to be that long. You can get away with a month or less but the closer to 8-12 weeks that you give it the faster and more even germination will be. I got my seeds in winter so they weren't going to grow anyway so I left them in the fridge for a long time.

wow so sarracenia seeds can actually survive a long time, just need stratification. I am now trying to germinate seeds from a commericial "toy" CP supplier, it was a gift from my brother. So far only 1 plant germinated, not even sure what it is really but I did stratify for 1 month.

Ello nice seedlings you have there......Got a question i know that sarrs and VFTs is normally grown under trays rite??? So i was thinking if that was really nessecerily???Cos when i make my little community pot i wanna put a nep in there and neps dnt like standing water because of root rot

It isn't neccesary ken, but it is not advisable to plant neps with sarras and VFTs in the same soil. While neps like damp but well drained soil, VFTs and sarras like soil that are wet completely. Also, they have some different soil requirements, like VFTs don't do so well in a mixture of nep soil like pumice, lava rock and etc. If you grow all of them in LFS, then you have to watch your watering for the neps cause LFS holds water and too much water can cause your neps to have root rot. On the other hand, VFTs and sarras will need to be watered more frequently. If you follow your nep requirement, then it is most likely that your VFTs and sarras will complain of lack of water.
