Nepenthes South of Peninsular Malaysia
 

Went looking for N. rafflesiana yesterday with TS and Jonathan down south of Peninsular Malaysia. We could only make it a day trip as we have other commitments but we were determined to go anyway even though the location we were going to took more than 5 hours by car. Add that to the hours looking for the plants and driving back, it adds up to more than 12 hours of driving time. I have never drove for so many hours in one day continuously before in my life... But it was worth it! :smile:

Nice work!!!!.......Love the raffs......Do they like come in bulks lol........My raffs looks so much like those in the pictures except of course those looks better and bigger...TS's reaction looks so funny (giggles)...And the gracilis looks good too......EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD :D.

nice raffs varieties. The amp with red lips have faded colours, probably due to low light level. There should be more interesting hookeriana colours around with such diverse raffs and amps.

It's a few locations in and around the southern states.

Ali,
We suspect the hot lips are not true hot lips as there are a few pitchers on the vine (upper vine) that does not have the red peristome. Forgot what these are called but this means the colours only appear in certain growing conditions. Kinda like what Robert showed us before.

The plants are found in a few locations a couple of kilometers away from each other. We tried to look for variations of hookers but can't seem to find them. Found a xtrichocarpa but nothing spectacular. Just the usual green speckle pitchers. And yes, you're right Robert. The amps with red peristome were growing under thick forest trees and bushes. The pitchers were also covered with leaves and detritus.

Lets hope they will continue to stay hidden, but I worry that the land might be developed in the near future.

Took us quite a while to find a site with Neps and we were starting to get dissapointed. We were also rushing for time. A few sites look like they are just perfect for Nepenthes but we could not find any. If there are it's just a few N. gracilis.

Oddly tho' we could not find any N. mirabilis in all these sites.

Nice to see wild neps.They indeed grow better in wild.I was 2 years in johor but could not find much neps.I guess it was well hidden from me.

What form was the raff with orange striping peristome?
No hotlips?Still you guys found many varieties though;)

The "apple tree", a stem full of pitchers. What a magnificent view at that site, these "trees" were all around us! No kidding!
