e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

I noticed this thread on another forum and having had some similar experiences, I am posting the link here for our members' knowledge as well. It sounds like most of the problems (stolen plants being sold, cheating self-bidders) related in this thread are in US but there's also mention of one problem seller in Thailand.

I am not too sure about the e-bay'er named "gmember99", but I have also received a few semi-expensive, large batches of seed and not a single one has germinated in four months. I have informed the seller but never received any reply! Now I read that others have had problems with him as well. :thumbdown: I'll post again if he ever corrects the problem with me.

This seller is listed as being;
Ronnachai Tenawat Meang, Chiangmai 50302 Thailand

Does anyone know this person?

i have orders 3 batches of nep seeds from thailand thru ebay last week, none of them has the name u mentioned... but looking from the feedbacks, i assume they are ok... hope they are fine...

sometime i think its our "luck" that the seeds can germinate or not....
I have seeds as gift from members here bt so far only 1 batch can germinate...:confused:

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Hi CBK, I've gotten plenty of 'good' seed in the past and always have loads germinating, so when 3-4 batches of seed from the same person all fail to germinate while all the others around them do fine I start to wonder! I almost always ask for a date of collection, explaining that if it's more than a month I would rather pass it up.

I too have sent off 'free seed' to forumer's only to hear back of lousy or no germination...I'm always sorry, but have never charged money!

There are numerous 'good' seed suppliers in Thailand, I know some of them personally, don't worry!

Marvin - probably a good decision!

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Well, here's the feedback from other buyers of this guy's seeds I have contacted today;

Dear shawnintland,
Hi,
I also got zero germination. The guy is a fraud. The seeds all get mold finally.

Dear shawnintland,
I just check the forum that you attached. Dude, I don't think it's a real address that you posted on petpitcher.net. I mean this guy send the seeds to me as "John Miller" and the address is "39 Moo 4 Meaung , Khonkhen Thailand 40000" .
It's all fake even the personal information. I still keep the envelop he sent. I can send you the picture to you as evidence if you need.

Dear shawnintland,
Hi, I've bought (april) amp tricolour and amp green but also no germination.
The feedback doesn't look good!

Hi Shawn,
The seeds that I received also no germination. The feedback doesn't look good so I hope other buyers will think twice before dealing with this seller. Thanks for the heads up.
Good luck and happy growing!

I just came across a thread on another forum discussing this same guy and his alias's...wish I had seen it sooner as I, once again, bought bad seeds from him, this time under the name of "o_osabai" last month!
.../
"I think 'our friend' http://s1.images.proboards.com/angry.gif may have changed his name again. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nepenthes-edwardsi....id=p3911.c0.m14
It looks like o_osabai (gmember99), may now be trading under the name, hillside_garden . He started up around the time o_osabai seems to have got a load of bad feedback for not sending seeds (oh what a surprise) http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.....ck&myworld=true

Beware guy's."

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Hi Shawn,

It's always frustrating spending most of our time and effort (not to mention hard earn money) seeing ourselves cheated away. I find this usually happened on e-bay where you'll get something else from what you are buying. That's why I always opt for establish reputable sellers. Even if their prices are whole lot more expensive, to the least I'm assured of getting the plants(true to the type) I wanted.

I guess that we, genuine people are always on the losing side. You got 'cheated' for some bad seed. Me on the other side, sending out quality stuff without getting any payment!! hahaha
Well......life goes on! Better luck next time.

Andy,

I'm just concern. Is the insident you mentioned about not getting paid from one of the members of this forum? If it is, talk to me about it in the Sponsor's Forum, and I'll see if I can help you out.

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Just came across this (From a very trusted source) on another forum;
Watch out guys & gals.
Jasper Knight has changed the name of one of his many eBay identities to rare_tropicals and is selling N. fusca seeds. You are strongly advised to avoid this KID at all cost, he is extreemly malicious and now well known for selling fakes (can't comment on these ones), but you would do better getting them elsewhere.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nepenthes-fusca-20....=item25576e288c

Anyone who doesn't know about this kid, read here
http://www.cpukforum.com/forum/index...howtopic=34294

Be WARNED Jasper, we will be watching for you now.

If you read all 6 pages of the last link you will get the full story - BE$WARE!

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Hi Shawn,

As this number of fraudulent growing, I am afraid about my future :sweating: . Right now, we are preparing few hybrids, which might be ready for sell in case we earn good quality and quantity. However, we do not make our decision on it yet.

However, I have an ebay account for few years, but my account never has much movement on selling or buying. I did sell some seeds few years ago, but I could not find confident when I have to sell seeds again. This is bad situation for me, but I will try that. And also, those ebay accounts, most of them came from Thailand. As I know, there is one guy who wants to destroy our community, however, I do not sure he will be this same guy or not.

Let see when time has come for my opportunity in market again.

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Hi Pop,
Hey, if you post on this and the other forums I bet you can sell out! I think e-bay has some honest sellers but there are also some real rip offs out there. That is why we are trying to point them out to others in the forums so that the few do not ruin it for all the rest. You already have a good name for your seeds from years past and more and more people are experiencing your quality when it comes to plants now! Good luck and please e-mail me when you are getting ready to sell seeds, I always love new seeds!
~Shawn

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

some time there are some good seller in Ebay too, they even offer seed replacement if the previous seed dont germinate. Looking at their feedback history may help too.

shawnintland 29th November 2009 08:34 PM

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

Yep, you are right! There ARE good sellers too! Unfortunately, most of us as buyers leave good feedback when we receive the seeds in a timely manner...months later when nothing has germinated or those 'rare' seeds turn out to be N. mirabilis it's too late to change your feedback! I'm seeing threads titled similar to this one on most CP forums now and it's probably a good idea to keep checking them if you intend to buy nep seeds on e-bay. There will still be new scammers or old scammers with new names, but they seem to be getting caught/exposed with greater and greater frequency these days.

Re: e-bay; Sellers to "Watch Out For"

THIS JUST IN;

Another of his identities changed name a little while ago (to plant-hunter*) and is now trying to sell a tiny macrophylla of £65 http://s1.images.proboards.com/rolleyes.gif
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nepenthes-macrophy....=item2a03570f44

So watch out for:
plant-hunter*
rare_tropicals
nepenthes_seed_uk

They are all Jasper
