When I first looked at the top photo I thought I was looking at a sea urchin. Very unusual plants.

Re: gila c&s

Looks like a pincushion to me :spinning:. At first I also thought it looked like a till because of the roots. A ball shaped till??? *biggrin2*

Now you are showing kabuto and its' hybrid from astrophytum family. Dunno what's next!!!!:spinning:
Super kabuto? *biggrin2**biggrin2**biggrin2*

See an albomarginated Agave Kichyjokan in pic #4 top left if I'm not mistaken. Care to show a full portrait?

Re: gila c&s

hi Andy,
Wish i bought it (albomarginated agave)... pictures was taken in Hong Kong flower street. The price is pretty steep for that albomarginated agae. In the end, have to give up.

I mainly collect hoya and orchids. Started C&S not too long ago and now tillies (to be precise, i started brom many years ago... due to limited space, i have to give up... and now started to look at tillies)

Andy,
I am in HK now. I went to the flower street a few days ago and still see the variegated agave there. Will try to take some pictures tomorrow.

Also, I saw lots of big variegated & cristated c&S.... the plants make me drooling.... but when i looked at the price... HKD198 per pot... i shy away.

I will try to take some photos when the owner is not looking. Most of the sellers do not like ppl to take pictures of their plants.

The plant in the first pic looks interesting. What is it? A pachypodium? Not cheap too...huh!:crying:

2nd pic looks like tetsudinaria elephantepes (if my spelling is right).
Thanks for your preview.

Some people like to walk a dog while others like to walk a python
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/w...0420091081.jpg
The poor python is almost PK (KO)/ belly up....
http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/w...0420091077.jpg

I think the python came up due to the recent evening rains. May be colder night makes the python look for some where warm but obviously wrong place this time.

Luckily our Indian friends are not into Snake Congee or Snake Herb Soup

Beautiful pattern on the snake, do you know what species it is?

Re: gila c&s

Khoas,
I am not familiar with fauna. But I asked a friend who likes to keep python, he told me this is Python recticulatus.
Citing definition from wikipedia:
"Python reticulatus is a species of python found in Southeast Asia. Adults grow to a maximum of over 28 feet (8.7 m) in length[4] and are the world's longest snakes, but are not the most heavily built. Like all pythons, they are non-venomous constrictors and normally not considered dangerous to man, even though large specimens are powerful enough to kill an adult and attacks are occasionally reported.
An excellent swimmer, it has even been reported far out at sea and has consequently colonized many small islands within its range. The specific name is Latin meaning net-like, or reticulated, and is a reference to the complex color pattern"

Re: gila c&s

Went out to check on my plants just now after the heavy rain, and thank God I checked, the whole garden is teeming with snails!!!! Half of my Echeveria mother plant has now been eaten like salad, I just bought the plant :crying:....

Ethically, how do I go about solving the snail problem? Do I put bait or do I just get a rack and put everything out of ground level? They will just slime their way up and continue their siesta all the same I guess...... My blue tongue lizard pet snacks on them , but I suppose it can't take more than it can stomach...(he's crunching away at some snails I brought in for him as I type) :T

atmccmn 12th April 2009 12:24 AM

Re: gila c&s

Sorry! I couldn't say much as myself is facing such problem too. Have tried the snail pellet thing. I was effective for only a couple of months. Then they are back again. The cycle repeats again... Sigh!:crying:

You have to watch out for your paphios.... just my concern.

funkychips 12th April 2009 01:12 AM

Re: gila c&s

:scared:.........By any means I will still use them......probably I should think of option No 1: Raise my plants on metal shelf, Option No 2 Go out to garden at night after rain and put a slice of fruit or vege, then pick them off and feed them to my snail disposer.
My Maudiae Paphios grow best at ground level. So I hope this is not a checkmate solution. This is a nightmare, gosh..........:crying:
