Re: N. hirsuta

I still can't comment on what's the best media yet but I can tell you N. hirsuta usually takes a long time to acclimatise to new environment and they prefer shaded condition.

Re: N. hirsuta

I grow my hirsuty in my standard mix of sphagnum, expanded clay (or perlite) and as bottom drainage pine bark. It does very well in this mix. It gets strong shaded of several other plants and seems to have no problem with it.

Re: N. hirsuta

i've kept it in coco fiber strands as base and sphagnum moss as media, 50% shadecloth, water as needed...it is pitchering for me now......*biggrin2*

Re: N. hirsuta

Re: N. hirsuta

Nice N. hirsuta there Kevyn, I think it acclimatised faster because your growing condition is very similar to it's original condition and that's a good thing.

Nice setup you got there... *biggrin2*

Re: N. hirsuta

wah.. very packed but this gives better humidity and natural way of shading to the plants that stay at lower part

kevyn chan 20th April 2010 05:56 PM

Re: N. hirsuta

yup, thts the purpose of doing multiple tiers and packed....those on the lower tiers and back portion are the intermediates like gothica, mardi gras, goblin, ventricosa etc.....note the blue bowl....thats the truncata sitting on the uppermost, airiest and most sunshine. on the left are the sun lover, mirabilis and on the right are the others. highlands are getting special treatment, sitting in water tray and above a pond. there is another rack on the far right too.....opppss, already out of hirsuta topic....sorry casey, got carried away again:blush:

Re: N. hirsuta

wow ... this red hirsuta is so nice. I've got the green form from BE (ugly duckling ). It was a hard task to make the photo. The plant was covered by several other plants. It stopped pitchering since a while. You see there a half dried pitcher. I hope that it is preparing for flowering.

Re: N. hirsuta

Nice healthy N. hirsuta you got there Kevyn, looks like it pick up and continue to grow without even stopping a beat. :1thumbup:

Seems N. hirsuta preferred media with moisture holding properties as you seems to use 100% LFS, correct??

actually 3 media as mentioned, coarse coconut fiber on the lowest, LFS in the middle and then 'real' local dried moss on the top level. and yes hirsuta love moisture retention media....and not to forget the shade too...*biggrin2*
