Been busy for the past few months and still busying now, repot the whole pot, photo taken months back, now left 1 clump, another died...

Decided to do some experiment after seeing how master N. Lau keep his ceph, the container is covered up, open for photo taking only, again, photo taken months ago:

Just curious, how did N.Lau keep his ceph? He has farm on highland right? Did he grow it there?

he grow it in his house actually(hiding some where as usual), from observation, he cover the pot with transparent container for humidity with no watering, and most importantly the pot is tall in shape, lot of sprout in his setup

Sooxiwei, if I may suggest, try covering the top layer of the media with something that dries fast to keep the crown of the plant dryer. Last time when I grew my ceph, I think it was the wet media that caused the crown of my ceph to just rot and eventually die. Great growing though. Looks like it will grow beautifully for you.

no, the whole idea of tall pot is more towards the water, usually water stagnant near the bottom before drying up, so, by covering the top, original potting wetness will slowly go down but no water enter, then most of water accumulate at the bottom and slowly dry off while the heat helps some to evaporate and trap in the covered area...whole idea was interesting actually and it works greatly:smile:

thanks :), the whole layering formula I use from top to bottom:

top 1/2 cm was fully sphagnum peat moss
4 cm of 30 sphagnum peat moss, 50 perlite and 20 aquarium sand
4 cm of aquarium sand
bottom was a tear off layer of aquarium filter fibre to stop medium from flowing off

I'm using the 1/2cm of full sphagnum peat moss to indicate when to water it, I plan to cover it but still looking for transparent cover, kinda busy up to date

One of the ceph in the orange pot died after I left them out under the rain few months back, another recovered and start growing, but overall, slooooowwww :)

btw, may I know what is recommended for the top layering?
