Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
Hi everyone
Well didn't know i could build a simple version of a highland terrarium so fast.............Anyways it will be like this for a year or 2 before i start upgrading it.... For now i'm just happy i've done it hehehe:1thumbup: It took quite some energy just to cut the holes.....I use a air tight transparent plastic to cover over the hole....And also perlite at the bottom..... And also i use 1 bottle of ice inside.....It isn't really a true highland terrarium because at night it only goes down between 18C and 20C its more like an intermediate......Even though i can make it colder i don't wanna waste too much space.....I guess this temp is ebough for hardy guys like ventricosa eh? Okays enough of the talking now the pics.......... Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
Looks like a good little settup you have Ken. Nice plants by the way. I would have thought that a drop down to 18-20 would be enough for most of the highlanders. Have you thought of adding a small fan as this might help to reduce the temp a little more. Although it may also lead to your ice melting faster.

Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
I will be starting a terrarium like yours soon, Kenneth. Thanks goodness some people sell styrofoam boxes here for a cheap price.......hehehe
Nice setup Cheers |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
That's a really nice setup you have done there Ken.
I hope your plants enjoy their new environment and start making monter pitchers for you. |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
Nice work Ken.I got some questions for you:
1.Where is the lighting?Or are you placing the box outdoor? If you place outdoor, you have to be careful of the sun.If it receives direct sunlight, the trapped heat inside the box can go high and kill the plant.A bottle of ice is not enough if the box receives direct sunlight. 2.If there is no air circulation, there might be funges or mold growth. You have to monitor daily. If there is some funges or mold then you might need to add a fan. |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
Hi strath
No place to put a fan........And also I'm using to 2 bottles now instead. Hi Ed Very cheap oni la Hi Ali Thanks Hi Alien I put in indoors which is usually around room temp during the day... I don't close it all the time during the day i leave it half closed........ Thanks everyone for the kind comments Ken |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
I am trying to get my equipment for free..........
Cheers |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
Hi alien
Well decided theres no need for lightings then since its already in quite a bright sunny place.......(not really sunny) Hi Ed The whole thing is about less than RM20......The most expensive thing is the packets of perlite......And will be waiting to see yours coming right up. Ken |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
Hi everyone
I have just one question left........Even though its not much on the terrarium but anyways at night when i put the bottles in and after the night which is the morning the plastic transparent paper has a lot of water droplets on it..Some big and very tiny....May i know why this happens? I'm not such a good guy in stuff like this...I guess its condensation? And also does that only happen when humidity is very high? Or because of condesation humidity goes high?? Ken |
Re: Terrarium and some pics!!!!!
That is condensation. Air has water vapour so when the you put ice bottles, the water vapour condenses and become water droplets. The higher the humidity, the more water droplets there are.
Mine doesn't have much water droplets.........so I will try to increase the humidity more. Cheers |
