« Thread Started on 7 Mar, 2008, 22:11 »Just want to share my joy.

I've been trying to grow D. adelae under growlights in my grow chamber for a while now with no success. Kinda disheartening seeing everyone elses adelae grow so well and knowing that I do not have a garden like most of you here to let it thrive. Killed quite a few adelae.

However, since I place my latest adelae (from Choong, clone from Lim of Penang) in a 1-feet terrarium, IT START TO GROW AND GROW!!! http://s3.images.proboards.com/grin.gif So happy!

Here are the conditions:

Gave it about 80%-95% humidity depending on the time of the day. Temperatures are from 25C-30C, also depending on the time of the day. I only use one 18watts PLL light placed about 10inches from the plant. At this lighting the leaves are green and does not have the bronze colour to it if you place it under direct sunlight in the garden, but at least it is a life and thriving for me. In my 4-feet grow chamber the leaves turns bronze colour but the plants dies after a couple of weeks. I also created a good air circulation with two air hose pumping air into the terrarium from an aquarium air pump.

The D. adelae seem to love this condition and gave me huge leaves about 6-7inches long. It's an achievement for me as my earlier adelae died when their leaves are only about 1-2inches.

What makes my day was I found a baby plant growing from it's roots a couple of days ago. The roots peeped out of the media and out came a little baby.

But what do you think they were not doing well last time?

« Reply #2 on 7 Mar, 2008, 22:56 »I've got the feeling it was the heat or lower humidity, and perhaps the lightings were too bright? I've recently changed all the ballast to electrionic ballast. Much cooler now but have not tried with another plant in the tank yet. Link to Post - Back to Top http://s3.images.proboards.com/ip.gif LoggedMy Wantlistbactrus

« Reply #5 on 9 Mar, 2008, 13:43 »That prolifera is still recovering form transport and acclimatising itself to my growing conditions. I really hope it does not die on me.

This terrarium was suppose to be the grow chamber for the three sisters of Queensland. I've mentioned about this in another thread. Alas I've got all three sisters but D. schizandra (pot on the right in the picture) is dying or may be dead already. http://s3.images.proboards.com/sad.gif There seems to be a geen leaf shoot but things have been stagnant.

Prolifera also not much movement. There's new leaves but small and very slow growing. Just hope it does not go to plant heaven any time soon. This is very precious to me.

« Reply #6 on 9 Mar, 2008, 13:46 »bactrus,

I did not measure the pot. However, I think it is about 6-5inches in diameter. It's the Baba brand plastic pot that you see selling everywhere. Potting mix is pure sphagnum moss. The top half is chopped up sphagnum moss.
