.........guys guys guys....of course its confusing to them! Your winter is led on just by rain, no temp drops or less sun....i am telling you, do not let them flower for dormancy, that just means it is not gonna go dormant unless u put them somewhere cold with no light. I dont know how many times i have went over this with pitcher plants and flytraps...trust me ppl. Your weather is definitely not enough for ANY plant, ANY, to go into dormany, excpet nepenthes, which in the wild they just slow pitcher growth. Mark my words, if you let your pitcher plants stay outside this winter, they will not be healthy. And yes plant lover, they need rest only once a year......from november till march...let me ask you guys something, if a plant originally goes to sleep because of where it grows, say like on a snowy mountain, do we give it its sleep like it does naturally in the wild? yes, We grow the plant so it has the seasons just like home. i think i have said enough for now, till i see more of your poor pitcher plants that is.

Vincent, about what you said, several experienced CP growers in our tropical regions have said that you shouldn't force the plants into dormancy. Under our growing conditions (constant sunshine and rainfall), the plants will go dormant by themselves, although not all at the same time. For sarracenia, the most obvious sign that the plant is going dormant is when the traps start decreasing in size and phyllodia are produced. Only then should watering be decreased and the plant stuck in the fridge for 2 months or using the 'dry dormancy' method.

Everything is different in the tropics. The change from hot and sunny to wet and rainy normally will trigger it to sleep. Mine still show no signs of dormancy. I do not want to force mine. My VFt died because I forced it..

well, the way we grow cps in the tropic is different because we grow them outdoor as we dont have the spacious indoor with intricate lights setup for them.....heavy rain the whole day of course the temperature will drop and there will be no sunshine......and we dont build greenhouse in the tropic! ha ha ha. vincent, come and visit us (now at this season) and you will experience the 'seasons' that we have here. we have our plants pictures to support our claims and experiences. i dont think our average cps growers here will force their plants into dormancy if they are still growing strong and flowering...just my two cents.

Re: My Sarra Flower Soon

i see...hard for me to understand. So from november till march it rains? how cold? I see your claim, and its justified. I wouldnt want to force my plant to go straight to dormancy either, but there has to be a time when they have to go dormant. I could see that it really wouldnt matter when you started VFT, pitcher plant, and some sundew seeds because there really isnt a drastic change in your weather excpet for cold rain. For me, i HAVE to follow the seasons. It is an indicator for me when to put certain plants outside, and taking plants inside for the winter. it would be very troubling for me to start pitcher plant seeds in the fall, because there dormany would be in late summer, which is primetime for pitcher growth. So see, i would be better to follow the seasons, sow seeds in feb, let grow out till mid march, and put them outside till october, then leave them in breezeway.
