April fools??

Hello,
Hello.... still remember me??? *biggrin2*

Guess who's back?? April's joke?? Sorry for being MIA, been really busy with work, just recently got a little free time to take some pic of my neps... Sorry for the "not so nice" pics as it was taken with my blackberry instead of my Nikon  cause only a little free time... :sweating:

N. (ventricosa x sibuyanensis) x truncata
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/6...bxtruncata.jpg

N. ampullaria

N. veitchii "Bario"
http://img573.imageshack.us/img573/5625/bario.jpg

N. lowii x campanulata

N. boschiana (seed grown plant from BE)

N. x hookeriana

N. (ventricosa x sibuyanensis) x veitchii HL - still a young plant

N. truncata x ephippiata

N. x rokko "Exotica"

N. x hookeriana

N. x sp tiger (possibly a hybrid with N. mirabilis)
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4853/xsptiger.jpg

N. x bauensis
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4727/baunensis.jpg

N. northiana - if N. rajah is the king... then I think this should be the queen... *biggrin2*
http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/2489/northiana.jpg

N. northiana - another one
http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/2...napitchers.jpg

N. sibuyanensis x ampullaria - more globose pitcher if compared to x gardentech, also it's a slower growing hybrid for me... :sweating:
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3241/sibuxamp.jpg

N. chaniana x veitchii
http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/8513/chanxveitc.jpg

Brain went dead....mind kept saying fuyooh!!! These are superb...!!!! Can save for BB screensaver?? hahahhaa

N. truncata x ephippiata = all pitchers are without wings rib? mine are with missing ribs......is that because of humidity?

Boris 7th April 2011 02:50 AM

Re: April fools??

wow ... such great pitchers. It seems that the trunc x ephi does fine in your lowland conditions. Mine is now in the greenhouse. I hope it will take the highland conditions we have at the moment. The northianas are so nice! The (lowii x veitchii) x boschiana is pure eyecandy. It reminds me of some thorelii x xTrusmadiensis I've seen. Many thanks for the fotos.

Re: April fools??

Thanks for the kind words.

Kevyn, not sure why N. truncata x ephippiata's rib wasn't so pronounce. I also hardly notice there's any pitcher ribs on the previous pitchers...

Re: April fools??

I think N. x baunensis spell wrongly. Suppose is "Nepenthes x bauensis", right?

Wah nice plants :) Was just thinking bout getting that (ven x sibu) x truncata....Easy to grow or not? Either this or truncata x (truncata x densiflora)

Thanks Kenneth. For me, (vent x sibu) x truncata is growing steadily, I guess anything with (vent x sibu) should be quite adaptable to our LL tropical weather but this doesn't mean every seed grown hybrids from this cross will be as adaptable though....

Hahahhaha...maybe its because of the gracilis parentage and we tend to ignore them..but looking at the nicely striped peristome...am tempted to get one too! Hehehhee

Hahaha... maybe... *biggrin2*

However, I think of all the natural hybrids of N. gracilis (as much as I managed to collect), this is probably the most finicky N. gracilis hybrid... likely a trait inherited from N. northiana... :sweating:

yes, i and why i said so is because the pitcher's shape, peristome and lid tends to be more like a gracilis and the other parent's trait...however your n x bauensis carries n. northiana's peristome...:1thumbup:

edwardyeeks 8th April 2011 07:59 PM

Re: April fools??

Just get N. northiana *biggrin2* but still, the bauensis is a nice little plant. Is it vigorous growing like gracilis?

NepNut 8th April 2011 11:11 PM

Re: April fools??

I think Kevyn must already got N. northiana ... *biggrin2* He's looking for excuses to get more new neps... *biggrin2*

I would say N. x bauensis is much easier to grow if compared to pure N. northiana. However it's not as vigorous like pure gracilis and other natural gracilis hybrids.

paphioboy 9th April 2011 10:08 AM

Re: April fools??

very nice to have you back, nepnut... :) northiana is my favourite... bauensis is new to me. does it grow big pitchers like northiana too? Maybe someone can make a cross of bauensis and northiana to create faster growing northiana-like hybrids... ;)

NepNut 9th April 2011 12:44 PM

Re: April fools??

Thanks paphioboy.

Don't think x bauensis's pitcher will be anywhere close to northinana's pitcher size in the wild (I could be wrong) because most often then not, hybrids of gracilis will tends to retain of lot of gracilis traits (much stronger influence)... A back cross should improve northiana's traits but the problem is it'll take a long time (unless you already got a mature specimen) to get northiana to mature and flower in captivity... :sweating:

hahaha...yes indeed i have n. northiana in my collection and yes again for the accusation of me wanting more neps (n. x bauensis) wakakaakkaa*biggrin2*

pakde has a n. x bauensis too but he said it has very little "eye pleasing" effect therefore i did not pay attention to it when i was there...
