Re: Any fisho here?
Pea**** bass... the bane of local species. You have to look from the other angle thought. It has brough lots of exciment to fishing. Good fight for their size. I normally tackle PB in a firend's pond around Ipoh. Nowadays, when and if got time...

Re: Any fisho here?
Hi guys... ya those PBs are definately taking over the local water ways replacing the resident species to be on top of the food chain. They are so aggressive and fast breeders, they even outpaced our local "water tiger" aka Toman. Many Kinta valley(Perak) mining ponds are full of stunted PBs because they breed so fast and so ferocious in their appetide, there's nothing else left in the ponds, so they're all stunted in growth where majority of the population is not over 12" long.
But there's always some exception to the rules, some ponds do produce throphy size PBs up to 3kg or more where there's abundance of food source and dynamic ecology where the existence of PBs already reach a sustainable relationship with the food chain of that particular body of water. There's always a heated debate on the pro and cons of PBs (we better don't start one here... go to MFN to do that , sorry Vincent !!) and what it did to our local fish species and angling scenes in Malaysia. Man.... those PB sure fight hard , pound for pound better than those North American Largemouth bass and to certain extent comparable to Small mouth bass... this is of coz just my personal views.... please dun kill me  Wish one day can join you guys on a fishing trip :1thumbup: |
Re: Any fisho here?
Hehe... yup. Pros and Cons... I would like to have a controlled population of PBs for sports fishing purposes.
A friend know I go fishing with my FIL in Ipoh asked me to get some back to release into a Dam. My immediate responce is, "Damn H*ll NO!" However there are LFS selling those PB in Penang already. What to do... I wonder what is their natural predator in the amazon basin. My FIL who has worked there says the fishes there are HUGE!!! If big fish the answer? These PBs are fast though... |
