It was a good documentary yaa... I enjoyed it. Fauzi look good in it.

But I was a bit curious how the Malaysian Tourism Board and Forestry department are supporting the guy from Terengganu in collecting N. ampullaria pitchers from the wild to make Lemang (glutenous rice cook with coconut milk, a malay delicacy which is usually cooked in bamboo). It was reported in the documentary yesterday that each day he collects about 2000 N. ampullaria pitchers from the wild. Perhaps it's because the guy only pluck the pitchers and the plants was not poached... and perhaps N. ampullaria is still very widespread and not endangered. But I just can't help but feel worried because each time if something is done in the name of tourism, infrastructure or development, the government closes an eye or approve it.

I fealt there should be mention of Dr. Charles Clarke and Ch'ien Lee as the two of them have spent years studying these plants and promoting it through their books and research. If I recollect correctly, Dr. Charles spent over 20 years in Borneo just to study Nepenthes. Without his research, the knowledge and awareness will not be what it is today. I was hoping for them to interview Dr. Charles.

It was great to see how Dr. Jumaat looked like in person.

Well, I have to agree with you, David. The guy collects 2000 pitchers a day??? OMG...thats serious.

Cheers
