Utricularia rostrata

Hi all,

Just an update on this species. This is a recently described species that was previously known as Utricularia sp. Chapada Diamantina. I think there are a few people on the forum that are growing this and you may want to update your records.

My plant has just started flowering for the first but unfortunately it is quite small and my camera wont focus on it at a level that allows you to see it. I have attached a link to a site that has photo's as a substitute. Cheers.

Where there's a will there's a way! I think there are a few growers in Aus that have this plant.

Grows easily from seed. My seed was obtained years ago prior to the restriction on the importation on Utricularia seed. It isn't a particularly attractive species.

Don't you mean the restriction of virtually all CP seeds?

Re: Utricularia rostrata

No, seed of many CP species are still permitted. It would not be difficult to have many others added either, only a little bit of time and effort would be required. I can't do it as for me it would be considered as a conflict of interest.

Im about to buy an Utricularia calcifida. Is this a difficult plant to grow? The Savage Garden says its easy, but Im just making sure.Btw, can I propagate them with leaf cuttings?

Calycifida is fairly easy to grow. It may need some warmth in the winter if you are in a cold area.

Maybe you guys find it easy to grow because you're not in the tropics. I''ve tried it a few times and it always died a very quick death, till I started growing it at my bedroom window where it gets air-con at night. Then it not only survived, but I got flowers too!

I found U. calycifida quite easy too, at least for my place. Ifurita, I think night temperature should be the problem for this plant for you, as you are a experienced grower, I can't think of other factors
