Good job Marvin:smile:, at this early stage the plantlets are prone to damping off disease so care must be taken to avoid very wet media. Make sure the media is just moist and you will be fine. By the way, Byblis loves full sun.

Re: Yes...YES!!!

wow, marvin, what's the secret to your success? mine germinates too but the success rate is quite low. i have to sow many, many seeds to get a few plants.

Re: Yes...YES!!!

Err.....I dunno?Last night, some insect flew to my byblis seedling and they got caught but the poor seedling shivered up.....damned insects!!

Re: Yes...YES!!!

what do you mean? the seedlings shrivelled up?

i found another seedling today so that makes 6 now - but when i comapre that with the amount of seeds i sowed....

Re: Yes...YES!!!

Hi Shamrock,

Did you bleach your byblis seeds prior to sowing? If not, that explains your poor germination.

shamrock 9th September 2009 09:58 PM

Re: Yes...YES!!!

yes, bleached them most conscientiously... could it be that some of the seeds have been in the fridge for too long? some are 3 weeks old.

how long can byblis seeds be stored and still be viable?

Re: Yes...YES!!!

My first try with Byblis was quite successful: i had close to 100% germination rate. In fact, my germination pot was so crowded I had to move some somewhere else (MISTAKE!:spinning:)

Now, 2 months on, they've stopped growing. Dewy, but growing very slowly. The tallest is about 2 inches high.

I hope you have better luck than me

Re: Yes...YES!!!

Byblis don't like their roots getting disturbed. I grew all my seeds in a small pot and it was so crowded. I moved 1 plant to another pot. Now the one in the other pot is still so short but my other plants have already flowered and produced seeds.

Re: Yes...YES!!!

I know, I learnt that the hard way :(

Either way, neither the moved or un-moved ones are growing well for me!

Re: Yes...YES!!!

oo yikes...I moved three of them into a terrarium but they seem to do well.

BlueGreenCheese 13th September 2009 05:20 PM

Re: Yes...YES!!!

If they're small enough they shouldn't die, but they'll grow real slowly. Just wait...

Re: Yes...YES!!!

another lot of byblis seeds are germinating well so i'll have quite a few now - i sowed all my august byblis seeds just in case they lose their viability.

Re: Yes...YES!!!

I don't think they will ose viability....do they?
