Pygmy questions for Khoas
Hi Khoas,
Hope you would help with the following questions. TIA! 1. Does D. pygmaea self-pollinate and produce seeds? Or do they have to be manually pollinated? (I have a few plants from seeds. Some of them died along the way but I have got new plants popping up now and then. Not sure if they are from seeds which I couldn't see...but I don't see the plants producing gemmae too.) 2. Do Pygmies produces multiple growth points and start clumping...like D. paradoxa? (Just today, I noticed one hybrid looking like it is splitting into two...will get a close-up pic later.) 3. Do Pygmies reproduce from the leaf? (I have got some smaller plants appearing at the side of older plants. As with the D. pygmaea, I neither get seeds or gemmae.) |
Re: Pygmy questions for Khoas
I really don't know if pygmea can self pollinate. I do know the seeds can germinate up to three years after sowing.
I have seen clumping of pygmea in the wild. I think damage occur to the rosette and new growing points come up from the roots. I never seen leaf cutting of pygmy sundews in cultivation or in the wild. My belief is that there is not enough energy in the small leaves. |
