Hi guys...

I think i have missed this tread...

I have something to share... Development vs nature lover...

In 2007 a location in Sungai Buloh forest reserve is permitted for development, "Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve is among oldest forest reserve in malaysia" Earlier that year some researcher have found an rare aquatic plant "Cryptocoryne minima" this is the first time record that it is found in selangor... even though the resident of the area "kota damansara" and Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) protested agains the developement it is not effective, in the end zoo negara staff has organised a plants saving activities where a small group of zoo negara staff standing in knee-deep water savaging"saving" those aquatic plant because it's clear that the pond will be destroyed soon... more info from The Star and NST please refer to the link below...

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...601&sec=nation
http://www.nst.com.my/NST/Article/vA...20070408074120
http://thestar.com.my/lifestyle/stor...&sec=lifefocus

Here we can see even RESERVE FOREST could be disposable, sooner or later we will only have concrete forest all around us... but we must always have fate and hopes...?

Can we follow the footstep of those great zoo negara staff without getting into trouble from the autorities? but to be honest i will try my very best to safe as many of them as i can...

As much as we have talked "BUT" how many people who are willing to get themself involve? i guess not much... this is why all protest agains everything never workout....

Human is blinded by "Selfishness and Greed" people think for themself before they think of others "this is reality" how many people can overcome selfishness? again not much...

Anyway this is just my though... hope that there will be more society which will educate people with the importhant of our flora and fauna and will be willing to do anything to protect what mother nature have created...

Regards
Jonathan

I was like you when I just came back a few years ago... full of hope for changes in the mindset of most people here in Malaysia but alas I was very dissapointed but there's hope....

That's why I avocate that we among a few that cares to play a role model to educate others instead of just waiting/relying on the authorities. It doesn't matter how much we can do as an individual or a small group, the most important things is that we're doing something even it might seems very insignificant right now.

There's still hope coz environmental awareness is slowly gaining ground but it's a slow process, I hope by the time when there's enough ppl that care about mothernature, she'll still be around to let us appreciate and inspire us.

I know. Just angry a bit.

And it's not big cities and skyscrapers that bother me, It's when developers want something crazy like 20 or more acres or more of shoreline to build on. It's this horizontal sprawling that's destroying habitats. At least developers will start building taller buildings on smaller pieces of land as land values go up when there's less space to build on.

The early stages of urban development are no fun!

Jon,

Just next to the Sg. Buloh reserve land you were talking about is the border of FRIM (Forest Reserve Institude Malaysia). It seems the land in Desa Aman Puri, where I am staying was once part of the forest reserve land. I did not know this when I bought the apartment. Feel kinda guilty staying in my apartment now.

There was alot of complains by NGOs and evironmental organisations, but as usual the project went on.

But as what cpnut says, there are positive winds of change recently. The property sector in Malaysia now are subjected to more stringent laws and enforecement and a few projects in the Klang Valley has be issued a stop work order orver some of these issues. Hope the situation continue to move towards this direction.
