edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

I only started growing CPs a month ago. So far, I only have the folowing plants:
  • Venus Flytrap(1)
  • Sarracenia purpurea(1)
I may be going to get some CP seeds, not confirmed. Wish me luck!

Cheers

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

CP germinate slowly. Never mind. Be patient. I started with a nep(N. ventrata), then a flytrap(Pure green), a drosera(intermedia), sarra(purpurea) and ping(P. primuliflora)

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

You will surely get more Cps as you get more experienced and as time goes by. If you want some fast plants from seed you could try some of the easy droseras, like capensis, burmanii, aliciae, or intermedia.

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

Yah intermedia germinate like crazy!! All the seeds that I collected in my intermedia flower frenzy was simply sprinkled on my current intermedia pot. I didn't think about it
much. Then when I checked yesterday plenty of seedlings popped up(more than 30)

I have grown over half my collection from seeds. It does take awhile but the results are worth it.

I'll have to see first, I was thinking of getting d. regia seeds. Tomorrow I am going to a nursery in sg.buloh to get a nepenthes. Is nepenthes truncata a good plant for growing in my condo balcony? Oh, ya, which nursery is the best in sg.buloh? The other day, I went to a nursery sellling nep. rafflesiana for rm38 and the condition of the plants were terrible.

Cheers

Plants being sold in the nursery are always like that so good luck on your collection!

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

I have added the following plants to my CP list:

nep.rafflesiana
VFT(typical)

I repotted both of them in larger pots using LFS. My raff is VERY young, it only has one lower pitcher about 3 inches tall. My new VFT is quite fine but I was wondering whether repotting it would damage the plant and kill it. When i removed it from the relatively small pot to repot it in the new and bigger pot, the roots were about 6-7 inches long. I removed some of the sphagnum stuck to the roots but no roots pulled.

By the way, have you ever heard of CPs planted in tanah liat? Mine was like that but I cleaned away the tanah liat.

 Hi! Edward…congratulation for adding 2 CPs…u sure will get more CPs in the future…:1thumbup:

Get any photo to show ur VFT?? Actually when I get VFT..I also remove it from small pot to bigger pot carefully..After that, that VFT look like very happy and grow bigger than before…I think dun have any problem if u remove ur VFT carefully..

I got heard before..some said ok but mostly people dun agree…I also think like that..so better dun use tanah liat…

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

thanks harlem for the advice, my VFT is happy now. well, tanah liat should not be suitable for CPs because it prevents the roots from breathing. well, I am going to try to visit fauzi's nursery this weekend.

Cheers:2thumbup:

Hi Edward

Glad to hear that your collection is expanding.....Just to let you know i think you have to email or give fauzi a call before you go to his nursery. If you are visiting him during the weekends i think he will be selling at subang parade and if you're going there you have to make a call on what neps you want him to bring there.

Ken

Hi Edward. I would suggest that if you are just starting out with Drosera that you try some of the easier to grow species first. D. regia is a plant that generally prefers a cooler root system and a definate cool period through out the year. I am not trying to discourage you from growing the plant, merely suggesting that you get some experience with a few others first as this one can be wuite picky about it's growing conditions. It also requires a fairly large pot as it grows unlike many other Drosera that can be grown happily in 4 or 5 inch pots. Cheers.

thanks, strath76! maybe I won't buy the seeds, cause I will be visiting fauzi. Oh, ya thanks for the advice, kentosauras, I will try to call Fauzi. the week before, he didn't go to subang parade. By the way, he only sells neps???? My friend tells me he has a lot of other CPs.

Cheers

Sigh, I can't visit Fauzi's nursery until the school holidays! Nvm......

Finally got to take photos of my CPs using a very lame digital cam that I got for free. Pictures are rather blear, but still ok.:1thumbup::1thumbup:

I call my sarracenia purpurea (Sara). My VFT is Gimli. Nepenthes rafflesiana is called Max.:laugh::laugh:

For your info, the container that is covered with plastic is actually a terrarium for my 1st VFT, Veni. => He is the one suffering the problems of root rot. Poor veni has lost all his traps but he is growing new ones. hopefully he will survive.

Now, I guess it sounds weird but naming plants are fun! I talk to them everday.......

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

Yesterday I visited my friend's house. He is the one who got me into CPs. I got d. binata seeds from him and a stem cutting of nep. miranda.

Just need help, should I cold stratify the seeds or warm stratify??? I visited two websites and one says cold while the other says warm. Currently the seeds are at the the balcony, I have potted them yesterday. need help, seeds were taken from flowers that just dried up from my friends d. binata.

Cheers

Khoas 28th October 2008 04:45 PM

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

If the seeds are really fresh keep warm, they should germinate quite quickly. The binata the seeds came from is most likely binata var dichotoma 'Small Red' as it is the only binata form that can self pollinate, all other forms need two different clones for successful pollination.

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

So far I haven't killed any plants(excluding seedlings). I hope none of them die.(especially the VFT and Sarra as they have dormancy).

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

I hope you get another VFT that will survive, edward.

plantlover 4th November 2008 06:49 PM

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

Oh yah I remember. Maybe I'll kill my first VFT. I tried separating one of my VFT but I separated it without any roots!!

edwardyeeks 4th November 2008 06:53 PM

Re: edwardyeeks list of plants (note:REALLY little)

Well, I do have another VFT I bought from a nursery. It was the healthiest looking there and it has lost more then 7 leaves so far. I left it alone, but I took some leaf cuttings and placed it in veni's pot.

Its my fault actually, i overwatered veni too much. Stupid me! what to do I was such a newbie that time.
