N. northiana x veitchii in very full sun
« Thread Started on Nov 27, 2007, 1:17am » Some northiana hybrids grow very well and color up well when grown in full sun. Note the sunburned leaves around it.

This is a good grower combining the best of both parent.

« Reply #6 on Nov 28, 2007, 2:51pm » Note the large wide leaves of northiana, with the wide high peristome of veitchii. The veitchii parent also lent some of the stripes to the already vividly striped northiana parent.
I am very curious to see what can results from the F2 generation if crossed back to either a veitchii or even a northiana!
My wish is for this to be female and I would have access to N. Dyeriana pollen. That would compliment the plant for warm vigor, large pitchers and now a very colorful striped form.

We actually raised seed of a "F2" northiana x veitchii. The parents were siblings from a cross made by Cliff Dodd back in the 70's. The seed was somewhat old, and made by a friend here in Florida. Germination was weak, and the resulting seedlings were weak except for two plants, which are finally starting to put on some size. The pitchers are already showing promise, and would find it interesting to one day cross one of them into EP's bloodline of northiana x veitchii. We also have a cutting of what would be their uncle! The future looks promising!

Welcome to PetPitcher! I've not been logging on to other forums for a while (been busy with work and baby) but I've seen your ID in other forums. Glad you've joined us. We would definitely benefit from your experience and knowledge.
By the way, please add your location under your profile. Thanks. « Last Edit: Dec 5, 2007, 8:55am by David »Link to Post - Back to Top LoggedMy Wantlist isaacgoh

« Reply #10 on Dec 5, 2007, 1:48pm » That exact plant is doing something in its newest leaf sheath. If it flowers and if memory serves me, it is female. I would love to cross this with either a veitchii or (dreaming) a northiana.
I will keep you abreast.

Hi David, and thanks for the welcome.
We have been extremely busy as well, with a daughter approaching three years old, my regular work schedule and a small nursery, it's all we can do to keep up with the world of pitcher plants...and all other CPs.
We enjoy being a part of the community, especially with you folks on the west side of the Pacific Ocean (and eastern side of the Indian Ocean). It's the opposite side of the planet for us, but where the action is! « Last Edit: Dec 5, 2007, 10:04pm by sunbelle »Link to Post - Back to Top 63.169.10.250 David
