Ken, orchid roots are meant to dangle everywhere..

You can't confine them.. Especially vandas.. Hence, just leave them be. For mini dends, I find they grow much better on wooden mounts. They're potted in cocohusk at the time of purchase. I just remove the entire root ball and tie them on a piece of wood (softwood, hardwood, mangrove, tree branch, doesn't matter... ) with raffia string or fishing line.. Have to tie them firmly so that they won't wobble. Otherwise, they won't root..
