Random pics from home and Kinabalu
« Thread Started on Mar 31, 2008, 3:59pm »
1) This plant from David has grown so big since I transfered it from the terrarium. Now it's one of my favourite plant - thorelii x mirabilis

2) Saw this plant in Kinabalu park botanical garden. Plant leaves looks like gracillis but with red stems, and pitchers shorter and roundish. Hybrid?

3) This plant is also from Kinabalu park botanical garden. Suspect it's fusca, not too sure.

4) Rajah and vetchii sitting next to each other in the kinabalu park nursery (off limits to visitors). I took this picture over the fence.

5) Seeing this plant is worth all the trouble! Anybody can guess what this is. Sorry for the bad picture as the plant is very tall and I am at the other side of the fence. Majestic plant.

Cheers,
Isaac

Yeah, thanks to you. It's a fast grower and shows very good coloration. The picture did not capture its true color properly.
Since nobody replied except David, Picture No5 is actually Edwardsiana. Finally saw it in person, I'm very impressed with it, the pitchers are at least 1feet long and grows high up in the trees. It's hidden in a corner in the kinabalu park.
Rgds,
Isaac

Updates updates.
Since the red kuchingensis is pitchering well, I want to capture it here to share.
This is supposed to be rare, since it's red. True?

New ampullaria i acquired (ampullaria brilliant red hot lips)

Another New ampullaria, "brown pitcher green speckled"

Hope you like them.
Cheers,
isaac

hey isaac, the red kuchingensis might be a red hookeriana. either way, they're both rare and pretty and that plant is a keeper!

It doesn't look like a hookeriana to me because i have another hookeriana red, but I'm not an expert in ID. Either way, I'm happy but for the sake of getting an ID..
Can anyone else provide a 2nd opinion?

Isaac

Isaac, more likely red hookeriana. The raised peristome connecting the lid a result of hybrid with rafflesiana elongata. I have one with the same features.

The red kuchingensis is a real beauty. No wonder its rare. Or even if its hookeriana its still beautiful.

Ok, not Kuchingensis then since 2 experts delivered the same judgement.
It's still one of my favourite plant because of its crowning peristome and very red coloration.
Thanks for viewing

My First time....
Raff Alata. Very anxious to see it open because red dots are climbing from the bottom of the pitchers to the top.

This is really a slow grower. This morning the size of the alata pitcher doesn't seem to really moved from the day I took the picture above.

Thanks Audrey,
Actually this wasn't suppose to be in my hands. Was accidentally given to me as kuchingensis, if my friend knew this is the xHookeriana form he's giving away, he'll probably think twice (or thrice).
The original pitcher was slender with whole green pitcher, speckled red, dark red peristome. Then in my care, slowly it made the transformation in subsequent pitchers and now all the pitchers are fully red. It's a surprise really.
Saw the raff alata pitcher turned into maroon but I'll post a picture when it finally opens. I hope it's a "tricolor" with striped peristome!
I feel like Forest Gump everytime I expect my first and second pitchers. (first and second can be very different altogether)
