It may be a salt problem. Coco peat can have a high salt content. It cerrtainly sounds like it sould be salt as this can cause stunted growth and burning at the extremities. A really usefull mix that will suit the majority of plants is a 50:50 mix of peat moss and sand. Many plants will also be very happy in pure sphagnum poss. If you only have access to sphagnum moss then try and get your hands on perlite. This is a manufactured product that helps to aerate the soil.

If you can take a picture it may help diagnose.
