Paphiboy, I think that was just a stereotype about guppy. And what you have mentioned above are all typical "symptoms" of a farm raised guppy.
Nowadays, breeders are very careful and not so skeptical. Brine shrimps and imported fish foods are fed compared to worms( most farms feed worms as this will make the fish grow faster) .

Life span wise, I have raised an albino for 16 months with 7 drops.

Anyway, all discussion about guppy are welcome.
