Strange GA3 effect
« Thread Started on Mar 26, 2008, 4:26pm »
So, almost 2 years ago, I was bored and decided it would be a good idea to treat 2 of my neps (albo and chaniana x veitchii) with GA3 solution. It is interesting/important to note that the albo had the GA3 placed in its pitchers, and the chaniana x veitchii was watered with the same solution (look at the basal pics). They were both about 2" at the time.

Over the next year, they started to increase their internode distance, and the leaves started to get very elongated and thin. No surprise there. This eventually wore off after about a year and now the plants grow "normally", except they are a basal rosette suspended on about 6" of woody stem.

I just happened to notice that just recently, both plants made a short gnarled leaf that was "burned" on the end, then both made a basal, then both made a normal leaf. As I said, they are still in rosette form, and they are about 6 and 9" across respectively (just guessing)

Here's some pics:

This probably isn't useful for anything except getting basals earlier than you would normally. A funny little side effect, I think.
