Pretty sure your TV IR will not do the trick Cindy, sorry. But can't figure out what other source there is to test. UV lights, there are many LED UV lights being sold now in toy stores, the ones that allow you to write a secret message and use the UV light to show the message. That toy worked on my brother's scorpion nicely and even to show security indicators on paper money that glow on UV lights.
