I don't know about stress, etc. but it might help to prepare the following for your plants, might help with your anxiousness to receive them as well.
1. Pots and where you will put them. Prepare these already.
2. Potting mixes, in fact mix them up and put them in the pot already, ready to receive the plants, specially if they are bare root shipment.
3. Water, I am still aging the water that I use on my CPs, or collect rain water.
All these gives you something to do, and really won't be a big step against stress or aclimitation, but I think these small things do help a bit. Specially coz you have a ready pot and mix for your plants when they arrive.
