I'm not too sure of what you meant by 50:50 ratio, but I suppose you mean 50% sunlight. Insufficient of light resulted the failure of producing full traps, and you watered it every day, it could be too wet if your condition is too dim, that will cause root rot, end up the plant say bye bye.
A dim condition could trigger the plant to go dormant as well. If the plant go into dormancy, then over watering should be the cause of the death.

hmm.. yeah perhaps thats why.. im living in PJ actually and sorry for the confusion, as i meant 50% sunlight. i did not put it in full sunlight. i also had the impression that it would get fried lol..
anyway, is there a need for VFTs to enter a dormancy period if its in malaysia?
