Sand helps with drainage.
The south african and many of the aussie native do well in a 50/50 mix. However many of the pygmies and tuberous sundews do prefer a sandy mix of 2 parts sand to 1 part peat while the Queensland tropical Drosera (adelae and sisters) do well in sphagnum moss.
