I think fancy guppies (as those breeders like Andrew specialized in) will probabaly be not as adaptable as those regular guppies thus will likely not be able to dominate a water system as you pointed out.

Fancy guppy like discus and arowana has been in the hobby scene for a long time and it's shine and value will likely retain and won't cause "bubbles" like flower horn.
