I might be wrong but these burn soil looks something similer to kledang hill red sand/soil.Neps are growing well on them.I think the rain probably washed the minerals on top of that soil cause it has been exposed to rain for a long time.Anybody tried the kledang soil on neps?

kentosaurs:you can acctually get those burn soil in most nursery.Usually around rm2 but in sg.buluh or kota damansara its rm1 only.Its just clay soil burn with some wood and sand.Thats why you can see the charcoals.People use it for normal plants.

Probably the burnt soil gives more air to the roots.Moss usually become compact after sometime and this means less air for the roots.
