Nepenthes sharifah-hapsahii
« Thread Started on Jul 7, 2007, 11:57pm » Hi,
This new species - Nepenthes sharifah-hapsahii was examined and described in August 2002 by Dr Jumaat Hj Adam and Hafiza. It took 5 years before it can be published and considered as a new species for Malaysia. It is a lowlander and was discovered in the UKM campus in Bangi. It has been named after the Vice Chancellor of UKM - Profesor Dato Dr Sharifah Hapsah.
Published in the International Journal of Botany 3(1):71-77,2007. I have post the copy of the Journal in my website in the PDF fomat (Last night it was under Word Doc - the wording is not very clear)
Maybe after Lisham expedition we will have another new species for Malaysia - Go Lisham go.

Alot of foreigners also commented that it's very lame to name a plant after some big shots or big bosses of the scientists who found the plant. There are many of such examples, with what they are doing with plant names, I guess Lisham you can get away with yours too!

« Reply #5 on Jul 14, 2007, 6:42pm » last time when having my industrial training in klang, i got a chance to go UKM, hope that i can meet dr jumaat (it's on sunday...lol) at his labaratory on a small hill. when i's on the way up to the hill, i saw some nepenthes that look just like n. gracilis and therefore didn't take much attention on them. i just went through them. without noticing that it might be a brand new species in *****ular malaysia. you know, life's full of surprise. « Last Edit: Jul 14, 2007, 6:43pm by ding »Link to Post - Back to Top 60.52.182.177 lisham

Maybe you should refer to the journal for the comparison - it could be a N.sharifah-hapsahii as it does look like it. A few things such as the shape of the stem, the distribution of the nectar gland under the lid etc.
