I would beg to differ and say truncata will do quite well in a deeper pot than usual. Or so multiple people that have been growing them for decades have told me. I can't think of any neps that grow better when root bound off the top of my head, but it is 3:30 in the morning....
In my experience, the only reason to purposely rootbind one is to attempt to induce flowering.
