The flower would usually finish blooming, produce seeds and only then die back if it's dying off due to nature. If the plant suddenly turn brown & die right during flowering, the most likely culprit would be pest and not old age.

Since the seed pods are still green, are you sure it's got seeds? Anyhow, I'd be very cautious in re-using the media in this case, some pest aren't visible to the naked eyes.
