Kevyn, I am trying out to remove all soil from the roots without damaging the roots. The reason why neps are stunted in growth when repotted is because roots are damaged during the process of removing the soil. I did this to my northiana and it's STUCK . So I tried soaking the roots (with the media clinging to it) and half the plant into a bucket of water. In the water, I slowly removed the media. Using my fingers, I sort of tickled the old media until it came of naturally. I am not sure whether this will always work, but I intend to try out and prove that soaking the roots and the old media in water will reduce the chances of root damage.

sometimes it is the best to retain the original potting medium while acclimatisation takes place, as it suffers from environment change and movement while travelling so that it will only need to cope wt one changes at a time......i had my n. x miranda in red soil wt flowering fertilizer when i first bought it....and very eager to change the media once reaching home but a sickness called 'lazy' strike and the potting were left as it is and you know what......it never stop growing and pitchering very well....

i know it still depends on the species/hybrid or even it is a seed grown or stem cutting plant...just my 2 cents.
