My friend and I went to Padang Wahid yesterday... Here are the pictorial result. Enjoy...

Another Nep species added to (the unofficial) Langkawi Nep species list.

After hours of looking for other species (scroll down to know what species la), I found this clumps of nep looking a bit different than the usual (red splotches, big leaves, pitcher with wide peristome) N. mirabillis. It's smaller (but still big, compared to the one I'm growing), base of leaves sticking to stem, thin peristome, etc.

Now the best part... It's confirmed that we have (drumroll music) N. gracillis growing along-side N. mirabillis. Sadly the explorer (that's me and my friend wont even make it to the list, as he just sit in the car and wait!) is not able to identify hybrid of N. mirabillis with N. gracillis, so I can't say for sure if a hybrid exists.

Big N. gracillis pitcher (I never seen one this big, is this the right size?)

p/s: the "other" species that I'm trying to find are D. burmannii and D. indica.

Make sure you guys/gals have insurred your back if you want to look for Drosera species in the wild. It's back-breaking becos of the excessive bending down.

It hurts!

p/s again: No D. burmannii nor N. indica found in this trip. More pix coming soon. Photobucket is not co-operating since yesterday.

One curiousity though, as I believe it's a wetland. Don't you become a feast for mosquitos????

It's more like a field where the natives feed their cow, the "lake" is actually sand mines.

No mosquitoes, I wore my shorts and black shirt... Not even a mosquito lbite. Maybe i'm not appetizing enough... The secret- Dont shower before going CP hunting. Oppsss... I did it again... muahahaha...

Heath forest had very porous and well drain soil and is not a good breeding ground for mosquitoes. Another place where mosquitoes doesn't breed are Limestone hills.

Erk, I dono ler...

They seems to grow happily sprouting ****es on runner.

They're not attached to the bottom, just floating freely on water surface...

Are they rare?

Indica is not rare I think. I'm more interested in the red water plant before the indica pictures. Looks like red stellata from far.

N.indica is not rare. They are found in ponds and marshlands, very invasive.

Isaac, i don't see any red plant !

Hehehe... I think it'll look nice in someones' planted aquarium... Not as common around Padang Wahid area tho... I only saw 3-4 strands of this kind...

What sepcies is the bladderwort? Is it the same as bifurcatum's pictures of bladderwort behind his unty's house? So cool!

Lisham, do they just float or do they have stems growing into the soil under the water?

I am not sure about the red plant. But I saw some Eriocaulon sp.. I wonder if there got any nice dwarf Eriocaulon. Must go to Langkawi and check out.

Please update your field trip if you ever go there. I would like to know more about aquatic plants in msia too. Near bkt kledang also got drawf eriocaulon, I've given some to YT last time to try. Can grow submersed but not as nice as cinereum.

The second picture looks like the emersed form of stellata sp with more needle shape leaf submersed. Wait for Lim to verify as well.

First picture is from the erio. family.

I think it more like Rotala something rather than Eusteralis stellata.

The emersed leaf does not look like Rotala family. I am quite sure about this. If it is, definitely not rotundifolia or macrandra species.

In fact, I've seen this in my friend's farm. He told me it's the new didipis diandra sp. Will update more when I find them.

Oh, I just remembered I have some emersed didipis at my balcony. Will take a positive ID.

Looks like a healthy wetland. Is it good for fishing too? Btw please excuse my ignorant again, where is Padang Wahid? Not a familiar name.

Yes. Definitely not R. rotundifolia or R. macrandra. But could it be R. wallichii? It would be good if got flower to verify.

Just back from there. Gonna thank to Lisham for the guide, time and plants.

The emmersed plant gave me the first answer. It is Rotala wallichii. But from the submersed picture. Guess Lisham made the picture slightly bigger. So, Isaac thought it is Stellata. I got around 3 stems back. It is just look like my Rotala wallichii 'green'. And this species is red color.

Beside that, I had 2 banana plant, 2 wild unknown orchid bulbs, 2 small mirabilis and few small gracilis from Lisham.

Hi Lisham, it's a little late but i think the pictures show a N. gracilis hybrid with mirabilis. i'm not sure of the order tho, maybe Robert can chime in with his comments?

Err... Lisham. Can you check is this hybrid got numerous nectar glands distributed all over the lower lid surface?
