I decided to run a little 'test' on some D. intermedia 'Cuba' seeds. One box is on pure chopped sphagnum over a layer of perlite, next is pure peat over layer of perlite and last is peat and sand 50/50 over layer of perlite. They were all planted on Sept. 19th and today is Oct. 13th so it's been 24 days so far. There has been excellent germination on the sphagnum and only one each on the two boxes on peat/peat-sand. Guess I know which way to do them in the future! I believe that the others will follow soon because I planted the last batches of D. intermedia 'Great Swamp' on pure peat and also on peat sand mix and both germinated quite well but without a pure sphagnum to compare them with.
