Well in the case of it being peat (if it really is pure peat he is using, we dont know yet) i would say waterlogged soil, even though amp gets submerged once in awhile, i still dont think it would like stagnant water building up around it....
i still say repot it into a more airy mixture, peat/lfs/orchid bark or something would do fine. just not pure peat or potting soil lol....
ive heard rumors that peat inhibits root development anyway. :\ idk
