D. intermedia 'Great Swamp' and 'Cuba'
« Thread Started on May 15, 2008, 9:48pm »
What is the differences between D. intermedia 'Great Swamp' and D. intermedia ' Cuba'?

Recently, I found that D. intermedia 'Cuba' can grow to 3 inches tall while D. intermedia 'Great Swamp' only 2 inches tall. Is that the difference?

And another thing is: Where is Great Swamp?

Here in the NJ Pine Barrens, D. intermedia grows even bigger than that! Those plants that grow semi-submerged, form large bushes, consisting of about a dozen plants, that get up to 6 inches tall, (above the surface), and often catch large dragon flies and damsel flies.

here's a link to information about the Great Swamp in US.

D. intermedia 'Cuba' is supposed to be a tropical strain, that is it supposed not to go dormant or rather, it doesn't require cold dormancy. Both the Great Swamp form and the Cuba form grows to about the same size for me (3cm).

however, my Great Swamp form died soon after it entered dormancy. mainly because i didn't give it cold dormancy i suppose.

Yes. I saw some habitat photos that the wild D. intermedia grow under the water. But can it caught any preys under water? If yes, what preys will be caught? Fish? Shrimp?

Hmm... Thinking to grow them in my planted tank.
