Here are pics of the soil and of my long suffering bical before I repotted it into burnt soil - I didn't sieve that extensively so that the soil can hold more water.






And a sanguinea in burnt soil grown in an orchid pot in lowland Penang weather - pitchers average 9-10 cm from bottom of pitcher to the lid insertion point on the peristome (not counting the lid height). Another plant in Kajang gives me better pitchers but up to 12cm only.
