Eventhough many considers gracilis to be a common and not attractive plant, I see them differently. To me this is a surviver. They can be found in so many different environments and media. In cultivation they are one of the easiast to cultivate. I admire them for their will to survive. On top of this the plant is a beauty when covered with a couple of dozen pitchers. So here are the pictures... The little hill... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0754.jpg The plants... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0755.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0757.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0759.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0761.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0764.jpg I like this whole bunch of plants growing over a rock. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0768.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0770.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0771.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0773.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0776.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0777.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0779.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0780.jpg A maroon plant... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0765.jpg There were alot of seed pods but the seeds have all been dispersed... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0781.jpg. Some of the plants were growing on the the rock face of the hill with a very shallow sandy media. Amazing! The rocks and media are burning hot from the scorching sun, and quite dry. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0769.jpg The media below. I think 90% is sand / rocks and the rest dust / yellow earth. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0758.jpg some were growing among ferns and bushes... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0760.jpg This little hill is about 300-400 meters away from the sea and only about 100 meters high. View from the top of the little hill... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0775.jpg The seaside... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0787.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0785.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0784.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...8/IMG_0786.jpg bactrus Location: Penang http://s4.images.proboards.com/xx.gifRe: N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia « Reply #1 on Feb 12, 2008, 2:51pm » What is that structure on the sea? Looks like a crane. David Location: Kuala Lumpur http://s4.images.proboards.com/xx.gifRe: N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia « Reply #2 on Feb 12, 2008, 4:04pm » Yaa, it's a crane. That is an unfinish bridge and platform. I think that construction has been abandoned. Not sure what it is for. Perhaps a platform for ships to dock. Never went there to check it out. sockhom Location: France http://s4.images.proboards.com/xx.gifRe: N. gracilis hill in Perak, Malaysia « Reply #3 on Feb 13, 2008, 8:06am » Great field report David http://s4.images.proboards.com/wink.gif.
